Just been watching the masters. Terrific, nail biting stuff.

So nice to see Phil Mickelson finally win a major he so richly deserves.

I'm not a big golf fan and the last person to sit and watch golf, but that was something. They did something that they might want to do more often, they put the holes on the greens to set it up for some great shots. Kinda like baseball pulling in the fences and juicing the ball. I know alot of golf purest might not like it, but it made for some exciting shots. Sometimes they set up the holes to make it too hard to land a shot on the green next to the hole, and it makes for boring golf, imo, because either you play it safe or risk a bunker being too aggressive. This allowed for everyone to be more aggressive and make some great shots. That was exciting.......for golf that is;)

Pin Placements at Augusta National for Sunday's rounds are hostorically in the same place every year. Or at least close to a few and i mean like 2 or 3 feet of where they were.:)

Sorry, i'm just repeating what they said on ESPN. Alot of the holes were set up to roll to the pin, and it worked great.

If that's the way it always is then i'm surprised it isn't this exciting every year, i've tried to watch golf b4, but it bored the hell out of me, this always seemed to have an exciting shot, or you were expecting a great shot.

The Masters is played every year at the same place. Every year or at least MOST every year it is very exciting when everyone reacvhes the back nine. Lots of chances for fireworks back there. Augusta National is extremley rigid in the way they do things. The Membership is very old money and very very very exclusive. They run the Tournament on thier own. It's really not even an "Official" PGA tour sanctioned event. It is very difficult to get in to. It has its own system on how you qualify. It invites who it wants. And the Augusta National Golf Club WILL do as they want in the way of making the course hard or soft , easy or difficult. They are one tournament that truly stands alone in golf.

Most PGA Tour events are set up for scoring. Some events over the past few years are setup for as you say , boring golf.

US Open and British Open and The PGA for the most part are set up Boring as well. The want to test the players in relation to par. Most viewers like to watch those shots that hit the greens and stop cold , or spin back to the hole. They like lots and lots of birdies.

Depending on where they play is what kind of golf you'll get. Old style courses don't really like 25 under par scores on their courses. They are the traditional types that want thier course to "Test" the players. U.S. Open courses are watered very little before the tournament. Fairways are narrowed alot. Rough is thick and long for the most part. They are the ultimate trick up the course setup types. British Open courses or Links courses are natuarally hard and fast. They use to have Goats for mowers way back when.  the PGA Championship is who knows what each year. Some years is a bidie blitz others are not.

Alot of the rest of the courses like those they play weekly are setup for birdie barrages as it brings more viewers and more spectators. More Money. More TV time.

Majors are Majors and define alot of carrers. The rest of the tournaments are important....But they wont define your carrer as a major does.

Well, I hate to say it, but that keeps people tuned. I made the comparison to baseball because they were juicing the ball and pulling the fences in, and the purest were not very happy about it because you had 150lbs utility players wacking 35 homers. But it brought the fans back in droves.
