Score Formula?
« on: December 30, 1999, 11:05:00 AM »
I'm not a score junky but i keep an eye on my kill death rank and have wondered how it is calculated. With the start of a new period it should be easier but it has me puzzeled.

sorties 3
kills 5
assists 2
bails 2
deaths 0
landed 1

K/D ratio - 1.666667 ?????
K/sortie - 1.666667 ?????

Can anyone shed light on the formula?

Okay, here's how it should be...

Kills divided by deaths:

Kill/death ratio. Even though you don't die, bails count because you lose your streak, so to speak.

So that's 5 kills for 2 bails.

That should be 5 / 2 = 2.5

Maybe the system's wrong?

I'm not sure how the assists help the scoring, either...

Kills/sortie is easy. 5 / 3 = 1.666...

So that is correct.

Kills/perdeath is realy K/(d+1) so instead of 5/2 your per is 5/3 or 1.66

I think that I have figured it out.  In the pilot score section there are 10 areas that you can be ranked in.  Whoever has the LOWEST number when all 10 rankings are combined is #1 overall, etc.  To improve your overall ranking, look at which areas that you rank the poorest in, and do better.  For the vast majority of pilots this will mean that they had better put in some B-17 and C-47 time if they want to improve thier overall ranking.
A lot of people complain about the scoring system, but I am begining to like it more and more because it encourages people to do a variety of things fairly well to be ranked highly.  To make this game interesting people must be encouraged to fly the C-47 and B-17.  This also explains why the B-17 is as accurate as a B-2, and why manning your own guns has been made relatively effective.  Besides, as I write this (for a very brief moment, I'm sure) I am ranked #2.  LOL

This makes no sense to me at all. Count the number of fighter sorties, thn the number of buff sorties for any day of the week, in any prop sim on the net. Peop;e show an overwelming intrest in fighters. Any score requiring buffing of any kind, should be secondary to fighter scoreing.

Next to collisions, my biggiest gripe about WB, was that inspite of the fact that I was the one paying for it. I had to fly planes that i couldnt care less about. Im referring to the TOD of course. Financially this was criminally stupid. People who would have played (payed) all month long. Would wait for those few days when there plane was available. Now, in AH, the emphsis is being placed on planes that few people have any real interest in.

And please dont post how you love to buff. Or be a well ronded pilot. Just go online when you read this and count the number of buffs ver. the number fighters.

But we all love to shoot buffs and transports down.  Someone has to fly them now, don't they?  Just imagine how few B-17's and C-47's you would encounter if flying them wasn't critical to the overall score, and if they wern't so accurate, and had outside views, etc.  This would also practically eliminate field captures if these elements were removed, the game would just be one giant fur ball, and relativly boring, by comparison.
On the "Ranks" page you can still click on "kill to death ratio", "kills per sorti ratio", "fighter score", etc, and see how you stack up in what area is important to you.
The score system just encourages a more interesting game.
