I am sure many of u airshow go'ers know who Lima Lima is. They are the only 6 person civilian airshow team. They fly T-34 Mentors. Well yesterday, as they were practicing in Wheaton, IL, 2 of the aircraft were flying close formation. Unfortunately, both of their wings touched each other's. Keith J. Evans, flying LL00 (according to my friend, who is a big Lima Lima friend...he also said that was the leaders plane) started spinning to the ground. The Lima Lima flight team does wear parachutes, but they were only at an altitude of 1500 feet when this happened. He continued spinning until he hit the ground. The second aircraft was not affected.
While all this was happening, i was at my friends house at Aero-Estates in Naperville, where i live. We were flying his R/C airplane when 3 of the LL planes returned home. My friend and I were wondering why all 6 planes did not come home. We went in, watched the news, and unfortunately found out about the crash. 2 of the aircraft landed at Aurora-Municipal Airport and thats why they did not all return home.
The team's webpage
www.limalima.com said that there would be a press release on Sunday.
