A Thanks, and a Salute!
« on: April 15, 2004, 10:11:21 AM »
A big thanks goin' out to Ghosth for lettin' me ride along as an observer during an ACM training flight in TA last night.
I filmed it, watched it about 5 times before I logged, still trying to figure out how he did it....
Just being able to try and use my views to maintain contact though, was a great exercise for me, while he was flying.
And to slapshot.  Ya shot me down twice in MA in that P38.  Glad I was filming that too.  I am finally starting to learn some ACM, but you followed me right through that barrel roll, and chewed up my F6F.  Glad I was filming it too.  I learn a little more each time I get shot down.  At this rate, I'll be a genius soon!  :D

Cheers,
Spitter

Hit Alt-R, 101ABN.  The film will run until you hit Alt-R again or log off.  :)

BTW, I should have mentioned - to confirm the film is running, look in the top-left corner of the screen.  When film is running there will be a red letter R visible there.  ;)

Ya know Spitter ... your gonna be alright !!!

Glad to have helped :D ... your attitude and thirst for knowledge is going to make you into a fine virtual fighter pilot.

The more you get killed (and don't get upset) and study what you did wrong, and the more you watch the films of those who do it right ... the better you will become.

I don't know about the whole more handsome bit, but I gotta commend Slap on his choice of rides as well.
P38 has always been one of my fave planes.  It's a beast to get the hang of, it sure ain't AH on easy mode, but it's a lot of fun, and I can't imagine a plane I'd rather get shot down by!

I'm just glad the toher side doesn't see names above the planes, or all you vultures would probably be thinkin' easy kill as soon as you saw me....and you'd be right.  :rofl

Cheers,
Spitter

BIG HINT !!! on the P-38.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT use combat trim.

I have a 4-way button mapped on my HOTAS that adjusts elevator trim (very important) and also flaps. I am constantly adjusting elevator trim and only get into the flaps when really turn-fighting. Also, dive flaps help more than most realize.

If you choose to fly the P-38 with Combat Trim on, then you might as well strap wings to a school bus and try to fight with that.

Hey Slap.  Yeah, I know about the trim on a 38.  Unfortunately, my office space doesn't allow for a full HOTAS setup yet.
I had a very nice 90 min or so lesson from Widewing one night, and really started to get the feel the 38.
I'm pretty sure WW has a hack of some kind running that simply lets him hover around, turn on a dime, hang on the prop, and a few other maneuvers I tried that made me do a lawn dart impression....:D
Thank's for the offer Wadke.  I was only flying the F6F because we had a carrier available, but I always want to learn more about the different planes and their capabilities.  Still studying Soda's page....
If I see on, I'll give ya a shout.
'My' squad and I are going to practice some team tactics next week, so ya'll better watch out.
I think I understand the Thatch weave now...Spitter flies out in front and leads all the enemy planes into his squadmates sights....:rofl

Cheers,
Spitter
