Bf109 climbing rate got downgraded badly
« on: December 30, 1999, 07:28:00 PM »
This is climbing test data which I just did quickly with Bf109, in versions 0.42 and 0.43.

Bf109G-10
100% Fuel with drop tank
1x20mm MG151/20 and 2x13mm MG131
160mph auto climb

Alt.  FPM(0.42)  FPM(0.43)  Difference
5k    3250       2850       -400fpm
10k   3100       2550       -550fpm
15k   3000       2300       -700fpm
20k   2950       2000       -950fpm
23k   2500       1650       -850fpm
25k   2100       1500       -600fpm

Quite big difference?

Also I noticed that Fw190A-8 climbs now 100-200fpm slower than used to. (made testings up to 15,000ft)
Also fuel in Fw190 runs quite fast.

In my quick try with N1K2, I noticed that it can be able to climb even faster than Bf109.

Fishu,
dunno why and how, but 109G and C.205 climb rates are really porked. They have been tweaked down.
Is this the "fine tuning" we were waitin for?
I'd like to hear something from HTC .....

Yes, although I did not test for the numbers, it is my opinion the Gustav climbs slower in 0.43 at 100% power.

I noticed a 200 fpm increase in climb rate (clean configuration) at 200 IAS.  Perhaps the effects of carrying ordnance are greater?

It is really great in that case, because i saved 30% fuel with 2x20mm in 190 than with 4x20mm.
Though, I don't think that two guns are THAT heavy that they get 1/3 more fuel, when climbing. (I did not see too much difference in climbing rates between them)

I believe this effect is across the board, since the La-5FN has been similarly affected.  I'm sure this is one of those "sweeping changes" that Pyro alluded to in his 0.43 announcement, and will be fine tuned as he gets to each aircraft individually.

It seems more like the changes affect climb rate, rather then climb rates have been tweaked. Would be nice if Pyro would describe the changes to the FM on some webpage.

wonder why they done elaborate more on what is done to the flight models? some of you guys seem to love tech testin seems like if they asked you could provide reams of data that would be usefull to um. like post what they think a planes specs should be and we see how far off it is and then they fix it. now i am completely ignorant of the process used to create this game and realize it is probably to early in the game design  for this. but when the time comes hope they post what they have for plane stats and we check to see how close they are.

but i would love it if we got a little more info on what the changes are each version.

remeber the 109 got castrated by accident somone noticed and brought it to pyros attention, he fixed it (at least for one version lol) and all were happy.

this is the way it should be i think.

Alex,
your right. Almost all climb rates have been changed. I dunno why, since our arena is big and the fuel multiplier is a real pain in the arse, we could get *real* climb rates.
The G10 is down to 3,000ft/min and the 205 to 2,600ft/min. Both figures are unhistorical and irrealistic.
Sure, we have to wait till the final version. As I posted some days ago, I would like to know something more about the "why and when" of the FM's.

Towd,
AFAIK HTC doesnt care too much about real tests. I think they are building FM's with their own data. All I know is that my dear "Veltro" was given a "tired dog" climb rate (so far), no matter how good the real 205 was (we have figures). Too bad. Anyway, lets wait and see.

P.S.: if I look harsch commenting FM is becouse this is the first time I can play with an italian a/c, and I would like to see it modeled in the right way.

Look at the bright side, F4u-1 climbs now, even better than ever and quicker than Bf109 without WEP..
not to mention about 190 which climbs almost like B-17.

Those stars on the wings sure do have some weird effect on plane modelling...

Fishu, don't be a whiner.  It's not constructive.

A lot of planes are undergoing changes and will be undergoing changes.  Not all changes that take place are in the direction of the final product.  On top of that, we have a problem in some calculations that we're tracking down.  This is a top priority and will be settled shortly.  Once that is done, there we'll put up information on our website about each plane.  Performance, never exceed speeds, tactics, history, etc.

So does this mean that the bug that makes it so every one shoots me down will be stopped soon    Great news thanks

hey, see it differently. We got all to fly plenty of different "experimental" planes now with characteristics that maybe existed and maybe didn't. Calls for quick adjustement of tactics. Probably helps skills more than grinding out the edges of a single, well-known weapon platform. Of course I won't fly 190 for a while now ;-)
