We don't get those in Western Washington. I think the deadliest one we get are agreesive house spiders.

Rip, do you know of any deadly spiders in our neck of the woods?

You even quoted it yourself. Well, the North American DLL indeed has no poison. In a later post, I went on to discuss the differences betwixt the European version and the N.A. version.

Again, my comment that you said was wrong said nothing about the European DLL.

OMG. I hate bananna spiders so much. I boat a lot. And those little things really like to spend time on boats. They're freakier then heck.

They have 4 legs they keep stabile. The other 2 pairs touch eachother and extend forward.

You gave the Latin genus name for the Euro DLL and immediately added the comments about its toxicity. Maybe your source is wrong. But I know from more than one source that the DLL (and admittedly I didn't know there were different versions therefore assume I was being told about the Euro one - Euro TV) that the DLL (Euro) has very potent venom.

While this little spider may not kill you....friends have told me they wish they were dead as it's bite is brutal and very painful.

Curly those aren't fake by any means and though they aren't deadly they are agressive and they are fairly large. I know cause I've seen them first hand. And it's not by any means unheard of that 2 of them get into it like that. You can see one is clearly latched on to the hind quarters of the other one. Some of the stories are urban legend but I've ran into those and they are by no means small at all.

Take a close look at the top right and you'll see he's holding them up with a pair of pliers. They are really close to the camera but you can judge their size by the pliers. I've seen one about that large in Kuwait, it's not a fake photo.

This little girl is outside my front door in my entry way. It's a bit of a close up but this BW is rather small, a little bigger than a quarter. Larger ones have a much bigger abdomen but still don't get much bigger than a .50 piece (leg span)

The black widow is common in Arizona. I used to toss little pieces of plastic into their webs and watch them run out and put their huge fangs throught the palstic.

Their webs are SUPER strong.... a garden hose with a spray nozel will not effect it at all and when you walk through one, you know it's a widow web.....very spooky, as they usually are in their webs.

The good thing about widows is that they pretty much stay in their webs.....
