UK/US - David/Goliath - David wins!
« on: April 19, 2004, 05:27:53 PM »
Old but good - anyone heard this?

The following is the transcript of an ACTUAL radio conversation in October 1995, between a US Navy ship and The
BRITISH authorities, near the coast of England.
The transcript was released by the MoD on 10/10/95.
BRITISH: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South, to avoid collision
U.S.NAVY: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the North, to avoid a collision
BRITISH: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.
U.S.NAVY: This is the Captain of US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
BRITISH: Negative. I say again. You will have to divert your course.
U.S.NAVY: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH. THAT'S 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.
BRITISH: We are a lighthouse. F**k off

Canadians: "This is a lighthouse. Your call."

When this exact same incident happened with the Canadians (imagine that!), we were sooo much more polite about it.

Wow, I've never heard that one before.  It's surprisingly similar to the US/Canadian, the US/British, the US/Australian, and all the other ones.

That ship never learns.  The last time I heard it was doing the same thing to a Canadian lighthouse.

BTW, since it was launched the Lincoln has been in the Pacific Fleet .    If you don't understand that...  Never mind...

Oh, I forgot to say.  This could happen in reverse if the citizens of other countries would get off their fat asses, and work hard enough to actually 'buy' an Aircraft Carrier.

U. N. Aircraft Carrier: "We can't find the Port"

U.S. Lighthouse:  "It's right were you left it"

You will have to excuse Beetle on this one, he is only about 2 years behind the rest of the world on posting fictious stories that long ago were disproven and are now covered on Snopes.   He is old, forgive him .

Exactly Dago!

Most of the people post fictitious garbage almost the minute it gets dreamed up.

(I still remember your post about Clinton boating into Vietnam with the US flag lower than Vietnam's. What an outrage that sparked. Too bad Clinton flew in. However, you weren't two years late in posting it, so it's not too bad.)

You put that it was an ACTUAL (you even upper cased it for emphasis) conversation.  Even if you're just posting, you can hardly blame all of us for twittering at your silliness.  Goodness Beet1e!

It was probably a 50s model ship and only got 5-6 mpgs. :)
