I recommend Garmish-Partenkirchen.

This little town is right under the Zugspitze mountain.

Not too far from Berchtesgarden

Not too far from Castle Neuschwanstein:

My grandmom lives in Garmisch... one of the most beautiful places on this planet if you ask me.

Though it would be nice to see some of EU there is so much here (USA) to see I don't know if one would be able to see it all.

I personaly don't fly commercial so the only way I would be able to see all that would be by boat.

I think I could spend a number of summers just trying to see all of Texas :)

my BGB what kind of found did they gave to you ??

I'm the first to recognise that Normandy is not the best gastonomic place in France (Hey I'm living here you know ;)) but it should be possible to survive

Theres is much places were you can distend your belly with fine food like Périgord (ask Beetle I think he got his belly in Bergerac :D)

There is so much recipes in the different regions of France I'll spend my life cooking local recipes  ...

Actually Muck except if you are stuck to Germany for political reasons (wich I can't understand ... landscapes and monuments don't do politic you know) there is a lot of places I consider worth the visit.
But it depend of what you are searching: history ,monument ,food, culture etc ...

If ever you want to come to Normandy shot me a mail or make a post here (but avoid at all cost June ,prices will be very excessive IMO)

I really should go to Normandy and pay my respects.

It's all these terrible things people who have visited France tell me, though they say it's mostly in Urban areas where people are extremely rude to Americans....at least that's the rumor.

Many folks I know who have been to France say the smaller towns residents are very warm and inviting to Americans.

I just get the feeling I would not be too popular in your country these days.

I guess it's just my skewed perception.

Maybe your right, we should let bygones be by gones.

It's pretty immature to hold a grudge against an entire country, isn't it?

I traveled through parts of france last year. They were anything but rude, and they knew i was american. Hell, at alot of places near normady they gave me free rides and food. The parisians are kinda rude, no more then new yorkers, but that is the same in all citys. People just do not have the time to put up with a tourist spending 50min to order a coffee.

Not only the Armerican you can't imagine how much I dispise the Parisian ...
It's often the case in the dehumanised big town were all people are in a hurry without real reason ...

quite true.

seriously ????
I think you are mistaken , there will be certainly cultral clashes during your visit. We as European or former European in you case (wild guess) have lot in common but also lot of differences (we used to start a war to each other quite often in a not so old past :))
I'll even open some beer with you without remorse

Don't forget that here it's the O'club were all passions are exacerbed and don't forget that if we choose a combat sim and not the sims it certainly because we still have some agressivity (I won't subscribe to sheep herder online or fishing strut online for example :p)

Well I'm not either the best example of maturity myself even having 2 childs and being 34 :D
Before coming to France or any place try to document yourself about the locals I know some book you can find in a library that explain some cultural differences there is between an American and a French : "French or Foe?" , "Savoir Flaire" ,"Sixty Million Frenchmen Can’t Be Wrong"

I don't have read the book myself I've just read the reviews but it will help you to have a pleasant trip.

You call also contact Toad or Beetle who have been several time here and are certainly less biased than I will.

Au fait I hope to be at the con next year even having some disagreement with some people here I'll love having some beer with them (I won't list them it'll be too long)

Very good post; and I share similar feelings. I've unsubscribed from most of my newsgroups recently and come this ---><---- close to unsubscribing from AH over all the transatlantic pissing going on over the last few months; but you're right, it's a short sighted view.

For what it's worth; should you go; you'll have no problems in France (though there's A-holes every where, of course), but why make a choice? France and Germany share the same common currency these days; and you'll cross the border without even noticing it (no guards these days). What I mean is: the big choices are A) Do you cross the Atlantic; and B) how long for. Once you land over here; it's very easy to be flexible and change itineries. Although Euro land is made up of very seperate and distinct countries; moving from one to the other is about as hard as moving from one US state to another. You should have no probs landing in Berlin and taking off from Paris......

Have fun.
