How to assign KP_5 to stick BTN_4 ?
« on: October 05, 1999, 06:32:00 AM »
What I'm looking for is to assign BTN 4 of my stick to serve as "View angle switch" for my HAT (4-w). Four HAT positions to be Fwd_UP, Back, Left and Right and when BTN 4 is pressed --> UP, Back_UP, Left_UP, Right_UP. I used to track nmys pressing BTN 4 to get higher/lower views.

Can it be done with current system or it is impossible without introducing "new view command" ?

It surely is possible.

If in flight or in the tower, open the clipboard, go to "setup" and then select "stick mapping".

Select "view keys".  Then find the command "look up" and map it to whatever button on your stick that you want.  Then click okay and try it out.  That should give you the direct up view when used alone and can be used in conjunction with your hat to get angled high views, too.

Those of you using a Microsoft stick with Profiler 3.02 can map the diagonal views with the external app, but make sure to use the above instructions for the up view.  If you map NumPad 5 through the profiler to look up it gets screwy and doesn't work all the time.

V0.34 will have eight way hat support so use of the profiler for views will be moot very soon.

Thats exactly what I tried. It works ok for all directions except fwd_up <-> up. With standard 4btn, 4w hat stick.

Holding down the key mapped to "up view" and pressing forward on my hat give the the 45 degree forward angled view.

Alternatively, you could map "up forward" or whatever it is called to that hat position but then you are in trouble in external views when you want to use the hat to move around because it won't recognize the input.

That is correct. But I'd like to view 45 deg forward with HAT only and straight UP with HAT + BTN4 :-) It's more intuitive when BTN4 gives you "higher" view. And if you track a con passing over your canopy from 12 oc high to 6 oc high it is just one HAT click - much easier. Especially if you used if for years in WB :-)

Thank you for help. Seems it is impossible without adding new "switch views" command or stick sets.

Yes!!   Please give us stick sets.  Learning a new view system after seven years of AW and WB is damn near impossible for the "experienced" pilot.
