Nice work on v.34
« on: October 07, 1999, 10:01:00 PM »
I am pleased with the update!

I noticed a few things:
Ground handling is improved.
Some aspects of the FM have been improved
P51 headrest is fixed
Guns are less lethal (=better)

The HiRes terrain is superior
But, my FPS lost about 5 (no biggie) and my pan snap view switching seems a little delayed now.

I noticed that the dots representing aircraft at distance are larger and blink as the con comes within view distance.  This is distracting and once the planes take form they are harder to see than the large glob-like dots.  This could use some review.

Also need prop drag.  This is critical for me as I will drop RPMs in the boom to help control attacking decent and also for landing.

Overall HTC is building AcesHigh in the right direction.

Keep up the splendid work fellas <Salute)

Yeag,

Seems I lost about 5 FPS, but still very nice.  ground handling is much better.  The guns seem to have a more shotgun spray effect now, but didn't seem to bother the guy who blew my plane out of the sky last nite!

At a low altitude knife fight last nite I shot over the top of someone and kicked up so much dust it obscured the target.  Kinda cool!

Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

I confer with the better performance of v.34.

This is one of those posts where I want to share what is good rather than the overwhelming number of squeakes.

The prop effects are great.
Flight model is superior.
View system is rad.
Convergence abilities are superior.
Stores graphics (when deployed) are cool.
Interior cockpit graphics are superior.
External plane graphics are cool (and perhaps aren't even finished yet).
Viewable moveable control surfaces add great visual impact.
Ground setup (tower, map bunker, hangar area) are awesome.

And the list could go on.  This sim is kickin!

This sim is off to a great start...even on a below-the-margin system (P166/32, don't worry I'm upgrading soon, and I do have a good PCI 16mb TNT1 vidcard  ) over a dialup connection it's playable. I was getting about 12-14 fps when I had the sky more or less to myself, down to about 6 in a crowded fight. Those FPS numbers seem to yield much "smoother" performance, visually speaking, than they would in other sims. I could get off the ground fairly easily in an LA-5FN and I managed to ping a B-17 once.

The only bad thing I can see now is that I'm *probably* gonna get spoiled being able to lower flaps and gear at any speed--trying to avoid picking up the habit. I'm having trouble figuring out how to shed speed to land, though.
