What's with all the ricer guns?

What I mean about this is the stupid built in rails.



Like in this pic, SIGs 1911 clone comes with them, and they look stupid.

I was considering buying one Cause I love Sig hand guns but I just can not stand these rails.


What with the whole add on light fad? Would you really want a light on your gun? would that not just be a beacon to were you are and get you shot? Am I wrong here or is this a really weird/stupid trend?

I have not seen a guy on the range with a goofy light on his gun (yet) but with all the gun makers offering models with rails like this it seems like it is being aimed at the average shooter. Wouldnt you be emberased to go to a range with a gun covered in doodads? Next thing you know we will see NOS stickers on them.

I thought you were gonna say Airsoft.  A lot of the ricers out here are into that.  Suprising, eh?  Somebody who is into fake fast cars would be into fake guns?

I still don't get it....that is where the term originates but who is a "ricer" now?

I dont know about current terms, but back then it was only refering to the Japanese bikes, not Asians themselves, and I don't think it is acceptable to refer to Asians as "ricers"

Nowadays, it seems to be more used to describe cheap, fake ans ugly add-ons to Asian made cars to make them seem "race ready"

Acceptable? Guess that depends on who you ask. Disdainful? Most likely.

 For me and most people I know being a ricer is has nothing to do with Race, and all to do with adding a bunch of crap to your car that does nothing to make it go faster, and then thinking you have fast car.

it is mostly done with Asian cars, but hell there was a ricer up on this forum with a Domestic car too. I don't remeber who though.


The way I meant it with guns is they are adding a bunch of crap to the gun that will not add to it's function and just make it heavy and ackward, and or get them laughed at on the range.

I can see adding night sights, or a laser sight, I can see a bigger safety, but I just do not get the whole lets add a flashlight thing.

I've shot a few Glocks with the light attached, didn't seem to change the feel all that much.  While there is the disadvantage of having the light right in front of you (figuring the bad guy is going to shoot at the shiny thing), I do like the convinence of having the light attached the gun.  You never have to look for your flashlight and your gun in the dark.  

Also, the light I used had two settings.  Move the lever one way and the light came on and stayed on.  The other way you had to hold the lever down with your off-hand thumb.  This way you could turn it off and on in a hurry.  Would take some getting used to, but I bet it could be benificial under the right circumstances.

That all being said, I don't have one on any of my pistols

Actually Curval, it's origin did have anti Japanese sentiment. Back when Japanese cars and motorcycles started selling well(because of better quality and mpg), the American car makers were taking a beating, one went under and needed to be bailed out. The Japanese even began purchasing popular American landmarks. Americans, being very patriotic, did not take a liking to getting whooped on economically and in industry, so there was some disdain towards Japanese cars and motorcycles. In time it subsided and we learned to adapt and compete with the Japanese. The term "ricer" does not have the same anti japanese sentiment, but the name has stuck.

Those aren't "ricer rails" those are accessory rails. H&K has 'em built in to their USP line to accept either a mini flash light or a laser sight. A neighbor down the street has an all-matte USP in .40 S&W with the UTL (mini-light) mounted on the rails. Best home defense gun there is. No fumbling for a flash light or a light switch, and it really gives the other guy a shock when he sees the light, and then "sees the light." Most likely they came from the now-famous Picatinny rail system used on military rifles to mount handles, sights, lights, and all sorts of other stuff. A pretty good idea, really.
