preliminary perk wish list 1.06
« on: December 28, 2000, 01:53:00 PM »
I figure each major country that participated in the war should get a perk, here are my picks:

USN: F4u-4

USAAC: P-47 M

GB: Spitfire XIV or Tempest

GER: Me-262 or 190-d9 w/MW50

Russia: Not sure?

Japan: Ki-84

need some input on the russkie birds, not too knowledgeable in that area

also definitely need a japanese carrier strike bird (mabye a jill or a judy)(non perk)

the IL-2 would also be a VERY welcome addition. (non perk)

some argue againt the 262 because it was a jet, but it saw much more operational service than many airplanes already in the game, and saw widespread operational use.

i am also of the belief that the p-51, 109-g10, and f4u-1c should be relegated to perk status, but thats another bag of chips that people are likely to have much more argument with

totally agree with you zigrat.oh appart from P51 .i think other than its speed its not so dangerous
I just think any plane with exceptional guns(f4c) or speed(262) or has some massive advantage in defence(b29 tigerII) should be perkers

wish list

USN: dauntless or catalina(held 4000lb)
USAAF: p40 but in british MED colours
GB: wellington or mosquito or hurricaine
LW:Ta 152,190F8(with torpedo),Me410,Me110c4,latewar ju88 (with torpedo option),me262
Russia: nothing
Japan: kate,val,betsy,ki84
we do seem to lack Axis ground attack aircraft so ju87's me110's and betsy's etc would be good i think for a bit of balance (21 allied vehicles/planes 12 axis)

I'd prefer to see the RAF, Russian and Japanese planesets fleshed out first before we get onto perks for them.

I'm not keen on perking the Ki84 either. The IJA has NO planes represented in the set whatsoever: A big gap. The Hayate strikes me as the only logical choice. Not only could it compete with the late war allied a/c, but more than 3300 were built and were heavily committed from the Phillipines on.

We could always perk the fuel instead

I agree Vlad.  I'd like to see many more non-perked aircraft arrive prior to a bunch of perked planes.

I would like to see the PBY-5 Catalina. (non perk) It was armed, (3 x single .50 cals) plus could carry 4 250 lbsers. The big thing about it was that it had RADAR! hehe

There is no reason at all to perk the Ki-84..It's not any better than the Niki, really. Warbirds was fine with an unperked 84. It was built in fairly substantial numbers and showed up in 1944.

A good Russian Perk would perhaps be the Yak-3 with the Uber-engine. Fastest turnfighter in the game (for those of you who don't know, Russians had some odd numbering schemes..the Yak-3 is a later and much improved Yak-9.)

If you want a Japanese Perk, the Ki-100 is the ticket. A real badass, only 400 built, though, but they did see combat starting in March 45.

What?! The 1945 Ki-100-I isn't even better than a 1941 Spitfire VC!

Top speed: 360mph vs 380mph at 20,000ft
Guns: 2x20mm + 2x12.7mm vs 2x20mm + 4x7.7mm
Bombs: 2x250kg vs 2x250lb or 1x500lb
Engine: Ha-112-II:1500HP vs Merlin 45:1440HP
Weight: 7700lb vs 6500lb
Time to 16,000ft: 6min vs ~5min

The Ki-84-I was the best Japanese Army fighter of WW2. The Ki-44-II was the second best.

Why do you want to perk the G-10 I mean it is easy prey already what do you want easier
G6s and G2s . And  the fact that the 109 is slow is quite wrong but ZI guess the Americans would get quite pissed if I said the same about the F4U catching 109s in spiral climbs(which WORKED IN REAL LIFE AGINST P51s and spitfires) aparently the 109s did  not benefit from the Flight Model revision huh HT no LW conspiracy I beg to difer.

Actually, glasses, you can out spiral climb an F4, given equivalent energy states. In fact, I have found no better plane for staying alive in then the G10. Just depends on how ya fly it. You should check some of the older threads on this board. I don't say this to be a smart prettythang either, because I thought that the same thing you did until I REALLY started flying it on a regular basis.

As for perk planes:

Realistic choice/Esoteric Choice

US: P-51H/P-61E
GB: Tempest/Spiteful
JPN: Ki-84/J7W1
USSR: La-7/MiG I-224
Itly: Re.2005/Piaggio P.119
Ge: Fw-190D-9/Hs-132
