I know a lot of you like to have your kids play this game online.  I think that is fine, but it should be expected that they are going to occasionally hear or see some unsavory language.

I have a few suggestions that may make your experience a little better for the kiddos.

1 - Squelch channel 1.  This is where most of the worst language occurs.

2 - Squelch known offenders on VOX.  You probably want to put me at the top of that list.

3 - Turn down the VOX volume when they play.  Under Setup -> Voice, turn the PLAY slider all the way down.  You can turn it back up when you play.

4 - Set your firewall to block UDP ports 2000-5000.  You can still play over TCP but you won't receive any VOX.

As this is an online game, there is no predictability about the subject matter or language.  It's like letting your kids watch HBO and expecting not to see nudity or violence.  It's just an unreasonable expectation that adults police themselves in an online environment.

All good points Havoc, however, lets not forget that there a quite a few Kids who play this game and have an account.

All kids are gonna hear swearwords, you can't turn on the tv or radio anymore without being subjected to them. I think context is more of an issue in AH. Lets at least try to keep it on a civil level.

Just mho.

If your kid is young enough that you worry about what they might see or hear, don't let them do ANYTHING online.

I think the things that really bring out my ire aren't really game related.  Mostly I get mad when folks insult the country or religious groups, or gays or different races.

I think those comments are irrelevant to the game.  I know a lot of guys get mad because they get shot down, but honestly I get killed so much I don't even think about it.

Oh well, it is the nature of the beast I suppose.  I just don't think folks should be shocked when the language starts getting bad.

I'm old enough not to be shocked by anything (ok almost!lol). What bothers ME , not my kids etc, are people who insist on swearing at everything. It's a litany of "f" this or "f" that g"d" this and "sob" that. Attacks at other peoples flying, or what they should of done or lack of "6's". I listened to a "seasoned" player berate another, with enough violence and nastyness as possible, over the way a carrier was being commanded. Then others joined. It was pretty bad. And not necessary. I recently ran into a group of pilots at a base and joined them for an hour or so. They were the greatest guys to fly with. Nothing negative. No swearing. Good communication. I was shocked and it was FUN. Which should be the point of all this . FUN! And in that hour we took 3 bases and had some good air to air. I don't think the swearing is as necessary as others seem to. But squelching does work.

"I just don't think folks should be shocked when the language starts getting bad."

There is no excuse for the language that we see being broadcast on CH 1 ... I don't care how old you are. The level of language that is displayed simply because you got killed is unbelieveable. The norm is to berate rather than congratulate, when killed.

Most that lower themselfs to this behaviour, would, in most instances, think twice about what they say if these discussions took place in person. It's easy being a "tuff guy" in this virtual world ... with little or no chance of consequence for your actions.

I am not shocked ... more like ... disgusted.

It doesn't cost anything more to be civil and everyone benfits.

Profanity and a profane attitude make a game unplayable.  Even with monitors and auto-squelch the Main pushes the limit.

Wouldn't it be easier just to squelch voice?

LOL, this is great.

Start a thread telling everyone what they should do to prevent them from being subjected to your inability to not type crap on CH. 1.

Screw the kids, right?

Was that you last night all over channel 1, hooked in by that lame "America Sucks" bait someone tossed out?

Oh yeah I came up with a splendid idea. You ready?

Ok here it is.

When you are about ready to blow up because your bad self got shot down and you feel those nasty words reaching your fingertips... Back away fron the ENTER button;)

Or! Hey I just came up with another briliant idea!

Or how about when you are ready to explode on range channel because someone didnt give you a check 6 or stole your weak little vulch kill or shot someone you wanted to shoot... Back away from the talk button;)

These ideas tho far fetched as they may seem just may work!

I must miss a lot on CH. 1, it doesn't seem all that bad to me. Every once in a while, somebody gets out of line a little but it mostly dies down pretty quick. Usually if you want to follow a particularly juicy exchange, ya have to open the scroll box.

If you think about the 5,000 or so messages that probably scroll by as you are sitting there, if 3 or 4 are somewhat off color, thats not bad.

Now on our squad channel, we get pretty crude at times, but it's all in good fun for the squad, nobody else is privvy to it.

I've always liked your posts until now. You are asking people to use SELF RESTRAINT!!!?? Not only that you're asking people to BE RESPONSIBLE??!! And if that weren't bad enough you're asking to people to HAVE RESPECT!!?? I believe some people might have to look these up in a dictionary.
