No money, so no buy new sound card.
I reinstalled Windows 98 (the card worked fine, and the drivers found the card fine before), modem connection so refuse to upgrade to WinXP and don't have XP drivers for anything, with all devices in their slots. Video card (Geforce 4) and modem (ZooM 56K) had their drivers install fine. The Live!, OTOH, would not install properly. It was found as a PCI card, and I manually unpacked and installed the SB Live! regular drivers. Sound worked fine in all games, winamp, and normal windows sounds - out of the front speakers because rear speakers need Audio HQ to work - , so I need AudioHQ to install. However, whenever running the file sblw9xup.exe - I get an error that a SoundBlaster card can not be found, Installation aborted.
I tried setting the BIOS back to PNP OS = Yes, Manage Resources to Auto, and Reset the Config. Reseated the card. Re-ran the Win98 over the previous install with the card out, then placed it back in - in a new slot - and still it didn't work.
At this point I'm about to wipe the drive again - and thats a pain in the bellybutton because I have to backup everything again without any guarantee it'll work - so if anyone has had any experience with this before, I'd appreciate it.
