The point of this thread is to illustate that the original poster doesn't know much about history or the current laws and regulations regarding sibling servicemen/women of those who died in combat.

Other than that, seems pointless.

So I screwed up the link big deal.

Mini D, Dago since you seem to be up to speed on the laws and regulations on this topic please inform me of them so I can understand instead of making your comments.

My point is this, they have been given a choice to go back or stay home. I was unaware that such a choice was given.

Now you are aware.  But your lack of understanding in military rules still doesn't cover the "others in combat that don't have a choice to go back" comment.

They lost a brother, the military has always been sensitive to siblings dieing in combat.  Other than that, there is zero about the military that involves the phrase "you make the choice".  That's why they call them "orders".

I believe it's known as the Saving Private Ryan clause.

AR 635-200 Section II Surviving Sons and Daughters

a. Commanders specified in paragraph 1-19 will approve requests for separation for the convenience of the Government of soldiers who qualify per this section as surviving sons or daughters.

Surviving Sons and Daughters defined by the Army:

a. The "surviving son" or "surviving daughter" is any son or daughter in a family whose parent or one or more sons or daughters served in the Armed Forces of the United States and —

(1) Was killed in action.

(2) Died as a result of wounds, accident, or disease while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

(3) Is in a captured or missing-in-action status.

(4) Is permanently 100 percent physically disabled or 100 percent mentally disabled due to service connection, as determined by the Department of Veterans' Affairs or one of the military services, and is not gainfully employed because of such disability.

b. "Armed Forces of the United States" denotes collectively all components of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

It says surviving SON or DAUGHTER. Not Son's or Daughter's nor does it mention anything about reassignment.

According to the article:

The two soldiers, Rachel and Charity Witmer, were given the choice of returning to combat...

Fortunately since I still am in the military I can atleast look up such regulations.

Didnt they go after Pvt Ryan after all  his brothers were killed and he ended up the only Surviving son?

My point is this, If these 2 were not in the news would this have happen? Did they ask Pat Tillmans brother to come home?

They choose reassignment over seperation, I can't see why anyone, civilian or military would have a problem with that choice.

I am sure Tillmans brother will have an option regarding returning to combat or not.

If you spend your time looking for something to complain about, you no doubt will find it.  But, making that your choice as to how to spend your life, you will never really be happy.

A thing I learned recently and is damn near a hundred percent true is that when people complain about other people they are complaining about something they don't like in themselves.
