I will be travelling West via route 80 by Chicago and then by St.Paul & MPLS to Fargo N.D. to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
I would appreciate help in circumnavigating by the best way
around Chicago & Mpls.

This may surprise you, but I wouldn't hesitate to go straight through St. Paul then Mpls. on I94. As long as you don't go through there between 3:00pm-6:00pm you shouldn't run into any major traffic delays.

If you really want to circumvent mpls, you could spilt off and take 694W before you get to St. Paul. 694W will go N for a while, then head back W until it becomes I94 again.

Traffic in the twin cities is nothing compared to Chicago. If you can survive Chicago, you'll have no problems.

Yeah, I don't know if circumnavigation is gonna work, to be honest. Your best bet is hitting chicago around 11 AM or so, or early on a weekend morning.

Flanking along the edges is only going to extend the misery.

RTR you are correct BUT I need to see my relitives. It is the coldest city within 60 miles north of the US boarder.
But they do have GREAT garlic sausage & head cheese. The rye bread is good.

Take 294 around Chicago if you are hitting the area anytime between 5AM and 8PM, If you are going thru anytime in the afternoon after 2PM or so - be prepared for some major stop and go traffic.

If you hit the Chicago area during the middle of the night then just stay on 94 north, I suggest that you don't stop for gas or food til you are either north of the city or well before hitting the Gary Indiana area, not the best areas to stop in.
