"puffy ack" or 88mm flack is just fine!

if you fly in a strait line it will hit you, and with a 88mm round it only takes 1 hit.

Develop a rhythm, when the flack bursts give a slight aileron turn.  The next burst a slight turn to the other direction.  This keeps you from bleeding too much speed, yet keeps the laser-guided ack from turning your pretty plane into scrap metal.   About the time the ack bursts is about the time the ack on the ground fires, and it is guessing that you will fly straight and at the same angle/speed.

I rarely get shot down by puffy ack. Dont even bother trying to avoid it as it rarely even hits me.

Now the other stuff you get at low alt is another story entirely

in the war puffy ack didnt hit squat. but if it did hit you you were down. many an ace was killed in ww1 and ww2 not by an airborne opponent, but by freak 88mm hits

and how can you post a whine about puffy ack. thats like addmiting to stupidity. like being shot down by a PT boat when you just want to add an 11th kill to your ten :D

88MM FlaK ROUTINELY fired rounds as high as 30,000 feet.

Anecdotes......

One I read, a biography, cited an occasion where 16 shots fired by 88's dropped 4 US aircraft, including 2 B24s.

If the stuff went off within 50ft of a spit, the shrapnel stood a very good chance of shredding the plane and the pilot.

At least thats what he said..

addmitedly puffy ack (or 'archie') was rarely affective. i do appologise for the PT remark, i just think that posting awhine about archie is silly. (although it has made a good little topic for discussion:aok )
i find that it never bothers me untill a freak hit gives me a pilot wound, or failing that, rips my plane to shreds instantly

Remember, it is designed to kill you, therefore it must do it someties or they would have made a new anti air method:D

Devil,

Was your experience in the OzKansas map?

My squad was mustering a JABO anti CV raid when the puffy ship ack took 3 of us out in a manner of minutes.  No 'killed by' messages, therefore it was automated stuff.

I'd be almost willing to wager that the auto lethality setting was a little higher that night or on that map than in general, because, like others have posted, the 88 stuff rarely hits in the other maps.

Just a thought.

I never get hit by ack, don't even try to dodge it either.
It sure bogs down my comp though.. which is worse than getting hit =\
