I'd be willing to bet that the covered holes are the gunports, but that there are no actual Browning .303's inside the wing. You know, being that possessing a fully militarized aircraft is highly illegal and all. Yes, even among the well armed public of the US. (Without, ahem, specific allowances sometimes made for contracted mercenary security forces such as Blackwater)

I know historical aircraft used for display purposes can have the original guns, but they have to be plugged.
