WWII Memorial
« on: May 02, 2004, 07:12:37 PM »
The new WWII Memorial is worth checking out on the mall between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.  Very water oriented in a sunken circular pool plaza next to the east end of the reflecting pool.

Small waterfalls, fountains, pool, Atlantic and Pacific pavilions, 56 pillars for the 50 states, territories and District of Columbia.

Small monument to The Great War (WWI) and the not much larger Korean conflict memorial are nearby, south of the reflecting pool that is between the Lincoln Memorial and the WWII Memorial.

The WWII Memorial is almost complete and will be dedicated May 29.  Meanwhile, good time to visit before the summer crowds.

There was a discussion here about it when the architectural renderings were shown. Looked very Third Reichish to me and a few others.

Did you happen to take any pics?

Found a few pics doing a quick google search...

I must admit, it's not nearly as ugly as I expected it to be.

I drove by the WWII memorial on Saturday and it looked great, then taking the Arlington Memorial Bridge I went by the real WWII memorial, no one waved.  They are still my hero's.

Took a lot of pics, but Sandman's artist renderings are better.
