What the hell was I thinking?!
« on: May 04, 2004, 07:08:18 PM »
Yaknow. When it comes down to it. You're right. I'm wrong. Been enjoying and promoting the CT from day one. But not everything is everyone's "cup o' meat", so to speak. Never will be.

Welp ... I let the `ol checkin' account get low this month and it couldn't handle the AH sub payment. I coulda got the cash in it, just drug my feet doing it. I think it's a sign. Believe I'll jump ship for awhile and visit the native girls.

1: Making and submitting banners - anyone can do it (as far as I know). Submit them to Ronni. She's a sweetheart. Just keep them 70k-.

2: CT development group. Those of you that have ideas or those of you who would like to have input on those ideas (BEFORE they get submitted and approved and announced) - why not join it and be a part of the creative process? Don't cost nuthin'. Everyone welcome as far as I know.

3: Friends (and or enemas - ShruG ... heh, not mine) Had a blast flyin' with ya. Every single setup was fun ... including this one. Sure, I woulda liked to see a setup that VF-17 could immerse in more often (quite probably one of the reasons I supported Artik as strongly as I did in HIS setup ... how often will 101 Red get to see such?) ... but it's actually been all good.

I'll get back when and if I can. If not, I'll certainly be reminiscing over all the good times I had both in the game and in the forum (and Barbara sings: Memories ..... of the days we left behind ....).

If I also decide to nix my isp, those of you that want can have my snailmail addy. Good thing I trained the dog to sniff pacjages and mail. :D

Yeah ... I'll still be posting here until I nix the isp (if I can ween myself from it - heh). Being a grounded pilot, guess I'll hafta keep it limited to "I remember when ..... ". ;)

I gots some splainin to do to my CO in the Kurland scenario now. Off to face his wrath.

Dontcha dare, Slash! I feel bad enough as it is. Got nobody to blame but yours truly. Besides .... some downtime may actually inspire me to greater things. If nothing else, I may either fix up this old box or build a new one. Though if I was to seriously get a life, I'd do something non-AH related ... heh.

You know I'll prolly be back. I went through this with AW. Nobody stays away for good. (Yaknow .... that kinda worries me) ;)

Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.

And we were fighting the same fight all the time, no matter if you choose not to see it that way.

Disagreements aside, think your one of the CT "good guys" and sorry to see ya leave.

How about a quick post on banner tutorials?:)

I think it's a matter of "tools for the job." I have Paint Shop Pro 7 and Animation Shop (came packaged with it).

Create a "blank image" the size of a banner window (I used 467x62 .... something close will work). Go ahead and save it as "Banner_blank" (or some such). Color fill and text it to your liking and save each (I.E. "This_week" or "In_the_CT").

Find or create images you think will fit the theme .... either on the internet or perhaps screenshots of an AHF file. Resize and paste the images into the blank banner window and save into a folder you have set aside for that specific banner.

When you feel have enough "banner windows" to create the banner (doesn't take much at a limit of 70k) then open up that folder in animation shop. Open the one you want to start with then open the ones you wish to paste in succession (paste image - after current).

Flight animations can be achieved by pasting successive screenshots - but you may have to keep them to a minimum due to size constraints. Image transitions have to be kept to a minimum as well. Save the image as an animated gif. The save process will tell you how long the download is. Anything above 20 seconds will probably be too large. You can hit the back button and optimize things to cut down the size.

Heh ... thanks bro but ... it's not really the money. It's life in general, yaknow? I don't like the turn it's taken. Time for me to figure out how to steer clear of the rocks. Which means I gotta focus more and escape less. If the situation allows, later on, I may be back. Just not as much the "fanatic." Then again ... is AH my booze? Am I an AHcoholic? :)

AH can suck the life out of life if you let it.  I for one will miss your no singing ass, try not to stay gone long but take care of your business. You are good for the CT but its just a game. You got my email so keep in touch. You had better be planning on the con in Sept as well. I want to make it to arleast one and it would suck if you werent there. ( that is if you aint scared of Mr Black:D )  Take it easy man <>.

Arlo ...I hate to see ya go old buddy (even if ya did whine about my A20 :p ) Ive had alot fun in the CT flying with you.  I know what you mean steering clear of the rocks.    A good break from things will do alot to help the smoke clear (been thinking of the same thing myself) fortunately life keeps me busy enough to only have a small bit of "escape time". AH is alot like drinking but better on your liver:)   Get some R & R   but if ya find yourself quilting with a bunch of old ladies ESCAPE......we'll keep your plane fueled up :D

Arlo,

Don't be a Tardlo.  You don't have to go cold turkey just because your a just you're burnt-out, or junkie, or whatever.  Just cut back.  Don't fly everynight and go to bed at a reasonable time.  I've done it, and I'm still having fun with/in AH.

Arlo,

As I said in the squadron forum VF-17 couldn't have stuck together last summer/fall without you taking up my slack after my knee surgery and everything that piled up on me at work and home.

So consider this the official release from all duties as VF-17 Medicinal Alcohol Appropriations Officer. :D

Have fun with whatever you do and stay in touch buddy.

Take a breather Arlo, get things sorted out and we'll see you when your ready. I had to quit AW from a terminal case of burnout, sometimes that all you can do, cutting back is not enough. Just dont make the same mistake I did and make your "cooling off" period 8 years!
