New F1 rules has won approval by the teams
« on: May 05, 2004, 05:28:28 AM »
I know that some of you are against rules and regulations, but I think the new F1 rules are gonna be great for the sport :aok

http://www.formula1.com/news/1510.html

some cahnges:

- Engines to last more than one race, with power reduced.
- Engine manufacturers to put forward additional proposals to cut engine costs by 50 per cent. This may be achieved through a new smaller, engine formula, or by extending the lifespan of V10 engines.
- Traction control and electronic driver aids to be outlawed.
- Standard brake discs, pads and calipers.
- Weight limits to be reduced.
- The need for a single tyre supplier.
- The need for a new qualifying system.

*yawn* we had this the 1994 saison, and now again.

with all the comming changes F1 is transforming slowly into F3000 ;)
And every year a new qualifying system ? why,
just let em race! schumi will sort em out ! :p

IMO F1 should go back to the ´80, over 1000HP with Turbo
and Ultrawide Slicks ;)

I think having a single tyre supplier is a step back plus how do you really measure engine costs? I dont think any rule is gonna result in Mindardi and Ferrari suddenly fighting for pole unless you bung every team 20 squillion each year and make sure thats all they spend.

Anyone remember the Brabham fan car?

That huge fan was for 'cooling' not for anything aerodynamic (yeah right) but it was banned after winning its first and only race.

I remember seeing it race and thinking "WTF is that?"  I understood the theory about better traction up front, but at the time I questioned why they went with 4 small tires up front instead of 2 larger ones like on the back.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing!

I thought F1 was about automotive technology development and advanced engineering such as traction control, turbochargers, and paddle control transmissions.  A single "official" tire manufacturer sounds like a step backward to me.  Then again, NASCAR runs exclusively on Goodyears so maybe that's the way to ensure parity on some level.

It's becoming spec racing, like F3000 and like NASCAR is becoming,
though I am hearing about another F1 style division coming up with very few rules...can't remember name though.

Guess it's more WRC and Trans-Am for me, where the cars actually look like production vehicles.

I disagree with the need for one tyre supplier; it's more interesting having different makes.

As for the other changes.... well it'll still be the big guns ability to make the most out of the changes.  They'll be putting a saloon car engine in them next.

- Engines to last more than one race, with power reduced.

Bull****.  Huge, huge mistake... l

- Engine manufacturers to put forward additional proposals to cut engine costs by 50 per cent. This may be achieved through a new smaller, engine formula, or by extending the lifespan of V10 engines.

Whatever.

- Traction control and electronic driver aids to be outlawed.

Blah.

- Standard brake discs, pads and calipers.

Bull****.

- Weight limits to be reduced.

Whatever.

- The need for a single tyre supplier.

What in the hell for?

- The need for a new qualifying system.

Why?
