- Engines to last more than one race, with power reduced.

May actually enhance the technological advancement aspect of F1. Not sure how you monitor it from race-to-race, though. I think there will be some fudging going on and that sticking with one-engine per weekend is a better plan.

- Engine manufacturers to put forward additional proposals to cut engine costs by 50 per cent. This may be achieved through a new smaller, engine formula, or by extending the lifespan of V10 engines.

It's probably time to change engine formula. Again, it pushes the technology to reduce size of engine.

- Traction control and electronic driver aids to be outlawed.

Then they'll go back to the situation where the teams with money will come up with creative ways to fudge it. Inability to enforce this and bickering between the teams was the reason drivers aids were legalized in the first place. This is a giant step backward and will further distance the have teams from the have-nots.

- Standard brake discs, pads and calipers.

Stifling technical innovation. Not really in the spirit of F1.

- Weight limits to be reduced.

No prob.

- The need for a single tyre supplier.

This also smacks of stiffling innovation, but what is currently happening is that one team bennefits from the tyre innovations more than others and odd alliances form with only two manufacturers. I say either make it worthwhile for five or six manufacturers to compete, or go ahead and standardize on a spec tyre and make it more about the car.

- The need for a new qualifying system.

Like the tried and true hour qualifying sessions. How novel.

I'd like to see them basically take the dimensions and displacement from a Lotus 25 and build a formula around that, but with modern safety features.  1.5l, no wings, no electronic BS, skinny tires.

Man... Im still pissy about this.

F1 is the venue for technology... limiting it is total crap.

WAY too many hurdles.  Get rid of all this crap and return to the rules of 2 years ago.

Technology has been limited in F1 for about 30 years now.  Nothing new here.  The rules of 2 years ago or 10 years ago or even 20 years ago were only marginally less restrictive.

Yep, and I'd enforce the aero rules by mandating spec bodywork.  Tons of power, cars hanging the tail out, and just enough downforce to keep them safe.  My formula would rock.

True, that's pretty close.  But if you let the F1 teams build a 1.5l engine they would be putting out about 500 hp.  If the formula allows supercharging then 1500 hp.

They should allow alternative engine technologies like electrical or alternative fuels like corn etc... Perhaps the smaller teams can gain by using a lighter chassis but corn fueled engine etc... I think its time to revise the F1 rules, would like to see that also.

:D

Not a bad idea, similar to what they did at the end of the turbo formula.  Instead of limiting power by restricting displacement or boost, they simply put a cap on the amount of fuel which could be used during a race.  Which meant Honda clobbered everybody.
Anyways, it would be a cool way to restrict power while increasing competition and providing meaningful technology transfer to consumer autos.

Saurdauker - do you actually think F1 could get any worse? Compared to the Senna days it's as boring as hell. Virtually no overtaking on track anymore and any excitement dissappears after the first couple of corners. Neutered tracks make for dull viewing too.

i agree dowding. its only in the first few laps and during pits there are any overtaking to speak of. If you are lucky someone blows his engine and the positions change abit :o
