My Prometiea took CPU temps down to -40c
wich let me OC my p4 2.4 to 3.6
was kinda neet .
I sold the thing on e bay LOL.
Too much of a pain .
Now I just air cool to 3.0
I haven't tried OC'ing my system since I really don't have the cash to replace it if I screw up right now.
but since my house doesn't have A/C I get a lot of overheat problems if I play too long in the summer.
so year before last I put a small window a/c unit in the window behind my pc. then I used a small duct attachment that routed half the air coming out of the thing into a 3" dryer duct and ran that to a to a case fan blowing in to my case. added another short peice of vent hose to route the cool air to the bottom of the case with the other case fan blowing out the top
I'm not getting negitive numbers but my cpu and MB is running about 85 deg when the house temp is in the 80's.
aside form the cooling I get a few other benifits.
1. is that since the air is cooled at the A/C then piped to and through the case. the air warms slightly on the trip, this actually makes the air drier than the house air, no condensation and dust sticks less.
2. the A/C unit has a filter on it. so where before I'd have to open it up and blow quite a bit of dust out every few months, I've had very little build up at all. opened it up last month and in the year since I last opened it, it had less acumulated dust than it would have gathered in a month before.
in the winter I run the unit on fan-only setting. it still cools the air somewhat because it passes through the unit that is mostly on the outside of the window, and it still filters the air.
between the push I get from the a/c unit and the help the inward flow gets from the case fan, it's pushing a lot more air in than the ezaust fan pulls out. so at every opening or vent in the case I have a small bit of air coming out, the possitive pressure really keeps it clean inside the case.
