I agree with Funked.

The President can express sorrow and condemn the actions.. but WTF should he apologize?

so far I have no complaints about Bush (on this issue anyway),  his reaction to this situation seems genuine and uncalculated.

while his is altimately responsable for the actions of our troops (and contractors aparently), I have yet to see anything that would point any direct blame at him.

things are looking worse by the minute for Rummy though.

The president represents the US. And him apologizeing for what we did is one of his responsibilitys even if he is not directly responsible. I am finally glad that he is being slightly humble.

If an apology is going to save lots of lives (many American) why not do it?

What does it cost?

With ultimte power, comes ultimate responsibility"

Actually he never said that.

It was   "With great power....."

Bush should apologize, he is the head of our armed forces.  I'm embarrassed at the behavior of our citizens, I don't care if the were contractors or soldiers.  Apologizing is the appropriate thing to do, then let's make sure it doesn't happen again.

I may not agree with many of his foreign policies, but I applaud his actions on this subject. Bravo.

Same here. I, for once, am impressed by him.

I wish there was this much outrage when American Contractors were burned...dismembered....and dragged through the street like animals.

Well, I think that it is better to give a democracy lesson to the bad guys than to follow them on the ugly path of inhumanity.

It seems that Rumsfeld should resign. He failed as he made his boss, our president look unprepared in this matter as this administration was apparently blindsided by the charges. Seemingly when Rumsfeld got the initial report(s) of prisoner abuse back in Jan., he didn't give it the attention it deserved. His briefing(s) of the president were probably too general and not put in the serious nature that they should have been.

Had this not been in an election year, Rumsfeld probably would have been booted out. Seems politics is going to win out.

Yeah Rumsfeld left GW out in the wind on this one.

I have always felt Rumsfeld was a little Ck Spelling  cenile.

I mean he is just to ridgide in thought and kind of an  arse.

Maybe Rumsfeld has a much different defintion of "torture" than the sensation seeking media?

Maybe he never thought this qualified as "torture"?

I can understand that.

Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!
