GM caught in lies again about HP...
« on: May 08, 2004, 10:21:40 AM »
Yep, GM has been consistently lieing about the HP of their over the counter crate engines... most of the small blocks have been found to produce about 5% more HP than advertised.

Now.... the king of crate motors... The ZZ572/720 has been shown to be a fraud!   GM claims 720 hp from this 572" big block that comes complete and ready to run... Hot Rod magazine has exposed these charlatans...

The Hot Rod test showed that the ZZ motor produced 801 hp on high octane gas and 787 hp on pump gas.

look for one of these motors in a Chevelle or vette or F body near you soon.

Say what you want about the quality of cars that GM puts out these days, but their crate motors and head and shoulders above everyone else.  Ford is starting to catch up, but GM has some KILLER crate engines out there.

I'm getting ready to do a LT1 or LS1 swap with a T-56 in my little S-10.  For the simplicity and gas mileage teamed with the sheer hp/tq numbers you get from the Chevy 350's it's hard not to do it.

801 hp??  Seems like a waste to put that on a car.  Put it on an airplane.

easy swap... looked at one yesterday.  Friend of mine bought a s10 with worn out v6 for like $800 and put in a nice tbi 350... even kept the stock a/c... Painless makes a harness to use the stock puter and such.

The new fun stuff is stroker ls6 motors pulling 500 hp easy.  All aluminum V8s for cheap... might put one in an older BMW for chuckles.

No big deal???  you could put your eye out with 801 hp delivered to your door!

These motors are bolt in complete carb turnkey motors legal in any car earlier than 74.

Gawd I hope the democrats don't find out about em.

The LS1 swap is a bit more difficult.  I'll need it out of the vette with all the accessories and ECU/Wiring Harness.  I'll also need new motor mounts and radiator.    I have a 98 S-10 and I have to notch the frame just a bit, and weld on an additional bracket for the tranny.  I hope to hit mid to low 13's with street tires.  I'm going to be putting on some 17x10's and 17x8's.  All total shouldn't cost me more than 5 grand for close to 400 hp in a tiny truck.

painless make a wiring harness to easy your pain.   I can't see why you wouldn't be able to hit high 12's with that combo depending on tranny and gearing.

What kind of rearend you gonna run?  stock s-10 is gonna complain to ya about them drag strip launches.

It's got the stock 3.73, I've got a set of 4.10's sitting in my grandfathers garage.  I  don't think I could hit 12's until I get some suspension work.  They suffer a lot from wheel hop, and without drag radials and a 6-speed tranny 1st through 3rd will be next to useless.  I saw the painless wiring harness.. I was thinking of picking that one up.

GM has more experience building crate engines. They blow up more often. :D

Seriously, GM makes great engines but the electronics and interiors are crap. Saw a 2002 3500 the otherday that was literally falling apart. The dash rattled and squeeked, the electronics were buggy, and it got 7 MPG. Sounded great running down the road tho!
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Traded in my 99 Malibu for a chevy truck with the Vortec. The 'Bu was quick for a 4 banger (2.4). The Vortec V-6 claims 190hp, but I think it's more.

PLus they don't sound like washing machines.
