Carrier ops?
« on: November 15, 2000, 09:42:00 PM »
Hi

Will the only planes permited to use carriers be ones that historically used them?
For example N1K2 did not fly off of carriers.

thanks GRUNHERZ

Im sure the htc crew will only allow carrier capable planes to land on carriers.
That is the way that they did it in WB's
HOWEVER..it is the duty of every paying subscriber to attempt to land all the modeled planes on the deck   .
In AW Dos and WB's this was a time honoured tradition.

I'm sure only carrier planes will be allowed to launch from the CV.  And if you don't have a hook it would be pretty hard to land.

But as Ping pointed out, players will find ways to land any plane on the deck.  Any port in a storm.

I think if it can fit on the deck, it should be allowed to take off from a carrier (or at least try)    Scenarios are the place to limit carriers to carrier-based planes, IMO.

--edit--
I don't think non-carrier based planes should have the benefit of catching the wire though.

So...basically, it's going to be F4U's and Hellcats vs. Zeros? Sounds like fun lol.

if I can land a b-25 on the wb cv Im sure I can get any  plane to do it its just a forced stall as you cross the end of the deck anyways and then hard on the breaks

I have pictures of USAAF P-47's, P40's and P-39's taking off from carriers in WWII !!!

Now we just need the P-40 and P-39

Sparks - spitfires only took off carriers in special circumstances (USS Wasp and HMS Eagle delivering spitfires to Malta, for example). I don't think they were ever operational from a carrier (might be wrong). Should only let aircraft that were designed and used as carrier-borne planes to take-off from a carrier.

Now the Seafire - that's a different question...

I feel only AC that actually took off from carriers should be allowed to do so.
Not sure what to think about B25 though...

Also.. you should be able to land any AC on a CV err at least you should be able to attempt to land any AC on the deck +) in the MA

Was there a Mossie equipped for carrier ops? or was that the Hornet?  (love to see the hornet in AH!! +)

Give the SpitV the carrier equipment, might as well.  It would be a minor change to modify the Sp5 in Aces to Seafire standards.

If they get to have Sea fires, then those carries should only be allowed to have Swordfish, or Albacores as attack planes lol.  I am suprised no one thought of adding the Perk Plane for carriers, the Bearcat F8, and even the Tigercat F9.

Hey Sparks.... sounds very tempting!!!  I can often stop a Lancaster in a much shorter distance than a F4U!

Hmmm....you think you can get a B17 off the deck of the carrier with full flaps?

Or what about a goon?

You could get a B17 off a carrier (offline) in Warbirds. The taildragger configuration helps a little as the thrust vector of the engines gives that tiny extra bit of help...
