GM caught in lies again about HP...
« Reply #15 on: May 08, 2004, 02:32:52 PM »
MT.. the vortec motors put out a lot of HP.. the v8's are pretty amazing in a truck.. We got one for work,  it is a gmc (same thing) with a vortec v8 4 speed auto club cab.  I told all the guys that the only one who could drive it was one of my guys who has never gotten a ticket in his life..  the darn thing will smoke one skinny tire for 100 ft.

but... even my puny little 468 big block is ah... different..  I can only imagine what a 572/740 will be like... hopefully boxer and finestein and kerry won't get em banned as assault motors.

Seriously, GM makes great engines but the electronics and interiors are crap. Saw a 2002 3500 the otherday that was literally falling apart. The dash rattled and squeeked, the electronics were buggy, and it got 7 MPG. Sounded great running down the road tho!

I call BS.  I'll drive me '96 Camaro w/ 3.8 and 5-speed out to ya RPM and I challenge you to find a single rattle, squeek or clunk in it anywhere.  I bought it new in June '96 with 7 miles on it.  It now has 63k, gets 20/28 mpg respectively.  Only problems so far are spark plug wires (GM paid for), fuel module (ouch, VERY expensive but it went at out 60k) and the A/C compressor.  I've seen Mercedes with less miles and years on them go through a lot more than that on a regular basis.  I plan on keeping mine for a long, long time.

SUCK FUMES FORD BOY!!!!!

Once gas hits four dollars a gallon Lazs will be trading both his Elky and Healy V-8 for a Yugo. And bragging about his mileage instead of his horsepower. And voting Democrat. ;)

Drive on up. I'll show ya the truck. The newer ones are beer cans glued on wheels. I do like the DuraMax engines and Allison Transmissions GM is using now. Only took them 20 years to figure out car motors and tranny's make lousy trucks. Glad you are happy with your Camero, but remember you Can't Have Every Vehicle Running On Luck Every Time.

You are right, detroit will not stop using gasoline untill it is gone, or the price is to high to be viable. Then they will just buy the technology from europe or japan.
