What is the secret to starting a PT boat engines?
« on: May 10, 2004, 06:48:40 PM »
I can press the E key till I'm blue in the finger.  It starts when it is dam well ready.  I can press the E key 20 times then move to a machine gun and shoot down 2 attacking planes then the boat starts by it's self while I am in another position.

How do you get the thing to start when I want it to?

PT boat engines are slow, hit E once & only once.

Patience, it will start every time.

Yeah, stop button bashing.

You also have to use the throttle to control your speed.

Button pushing

If I push the button only once, 5 boats can spawn, start and drive away before my boat starts.  Most of the time (75%) my boat won't start at all.

Ideas??

In position 1 and hear the starter grind.  Then nothing for a long time.  Other boats spawn around me, start up and drive away before my boat starts.  If it starts at all.

Most of the time it never starts.

If you hear the starter grind, then the engine is starting. If the sound isnt turned high enough you cant hear the engine that good. Also be sure you have the throttle at 100%. This will always work and remember to have patience, the boat wont move the instant you push the E key.

Also, don't forget to put it in forward gear.

I spawn the boat.  I get in the #1 position.  I put the throttle to full.  I put the boat in gear.  I press the E key and hear the starter grind.  Then another boat spawns next to me.  It starts up and drives away.  Then another boat spawns next to me, starts up and drives away.  Then another and another and another before my boat starts if it starts at all.  Usually it doesn't.

What am I doing wrong?

Quit mashing the gas when you try to start the boat... you'll flood the carbuerator and it'll stall.

Actually.... just hit E and put it in forward gear and you should be fine.
