Bullet holes
« on: May 11, 2004, 05:05:02 PM »
I remember reading something like "Bullet holes will show up on your A/C where the bullets actually hit"

Is it just me, or do bullet holes seem to be in the same spot all the time?

Is the "where the bullet hit" function not implemented, is it something coming later, or do we already have it?

Lets be realistic here.  When I hear where they hit, I think inner wing, outer wing, flap, etc....not 2" inboard from a 10º defelction off the vertical of the 5th outer fuel panel.

The visual damage isnt going to be more detailed than the actual damage model...so I figure we are going to have a little leeway...besides...its still beta:D

Actually, that is what I was expecting from what HiTech said. I remember how after that people were saying how much better it would be from what IL2 did, where the same damage (in varying degrees of intensity) was shown every time.

Unless HTC says different, I'm expecting each bullet hole to show up where the bullet hit.

We already have it based on DarkNet's screen shots and what I experienced earlier in a -51D. The large hole (37mm?) in the wing in his shot are inboard of the guns. I had one of those near the right wingtip and a second on the left wing center section earlier. I also had a smallish hole in the left H-stab and another one just behind the muzzle of the right wing #2 gun. On my second hop I collected three of those big holes. One just in front of the right flap, outboard of the flap-aileron split. The second landed forward of the first, and number three pealed open forward and slightly inboard of the fuel filler cap. Small holes were in the H-stabs, fuselage, and two in the left wing just outboard of the left filler cap.

The system sends the ammo type and the x,y,z  position of the bullet hit to the client. The client then finds the closest hole to that point and turns it on.

So yes it is displaying where the bullet hit. It's just a matter of how many holes we put in the plane as to the accuracy.

cool.  So about how many 'hidden holes' will exist in any given wing when AH2 is polished?

are these "holes" enabled on all aircraft? I have been shot alot lately and all I see is the same damage as I would in AH1.

I don't know if they're actual bullet holes, you won't get to see a trail of bullets on your wing or anything.
It's more like minor flak damage I guess, you'll see a large or medium hole.
