Carriers and the map....
« on: November 16, 2000, 05:42:00 PM »
Hmmm this seems to make sense:

Have the enemy fleets not visible on the map!  Only friendly carrier groups/bases marked on the maps.  I don't know if that would be problematic due to hard code, but to me it makes alotta sense...

Of course as it stands now we have the sector markers, we would be able to tell what sector the fleet is in, however not exactly where.  Any force otw to attack a carrier would show on dar likely before they had found the carrier.  Could make for some real interesting fights +)
And of course once a PAC scenario comes along, enemy carrier groups will NEED to be hidden.

Good idea SKurj..

What this sim lacks or fails to force upon a particular country is the role of recon.  Yes I know its a long boring flight "looking" for potential nme's, however when it does pan out (for example)there is nothing like strafing a "parked" C47 just south of your airfield.  This will be the case when "you" find the nme task force and broadcast its where-a-bouts.

I for one would like to do recon missions.  I would also like to do air resupply. I find it satisfying to do long range recon, find the enemy keep tags on them and radio what is going on to my team.  I do this Now in another game.  I also enjoy  watching my team take territory and airfields and flying supplies into them to replenish the bases supplies.  I currently do this often in another sim.  It is quite humorus to hear the enemy complaining that there is no way that many planes can be launching from that base since they just took it.  Knowing the reason is because I am delivering fuel and ammo.  I also  enjoy loading up extra fuel and climbing high to provide High Cap for bases.  People are appreciative when you splash a formation of bombers headed to there runway, or some get through and you give them warning to take off.  So the long boring recon mission would not be since you would have to plan the search range, be vigilant, and of course sneaky to survive.  the key would be to have dedicated recon planes, however a B-17 could be a good recon  plane.  More in that vein you could use any plane to do recon so if you wanted to search out the ships, report and then engage the cap with a fighter  good luck.
