Beta29: Video Issues
« on: May 12, 2004, 05:59:44 PM »
Some video problems I had.

The horizon near the edge of the screen is jagged in all views.

Hits and a wing panel are still visable when wing is shot off in p51d.  (image brightened)

Fields and forests shimmer and tear.

System:
WinXP Pro SP1
Asus A7N8X2.0 Deluxe
AMDXP 2500+
ATI 9500 Pro w/ CAT 4.1's
768MB RAM

...also, I didn't get a screenshot of it and only saw it occur once, but at least the b26's icon blinks in and out when viewed through the La5's gunsight.

Yep, I have the same problems.  Beta 28 was better, graphics wise.

Sorry, I'll stick with 4.1's for now. They are the fastest drivers in IL2FB on my rig.   Perfect mode doesnt work at all with 4.4 (well, it does, but I get 5 fps).

Anybody that plays games should be getting their drivers from ...

http://www.omegacorner.com

This site has both ATI and Nvida drivers tweaked especially for gaming. When ATI releases a set of drivers, this guy is not too far behind in his release.

I have a ATI 9500 Sapphire Card softmoded to a 9700 using these drivers, and for a $125.00 video board I am getting consistent framrates in the high 80s to 100 fps (max fps for my refresh rate).

Thru the ATI Control Panel, I am running 6X Anti-Alias and 16X Antro. With these settings, I still maintain the rates stated above and the graphic detail is spectacular.

While dogfighting, if zoomed in on the con, I can actually see the prop movement and control surface movement.

I have been using the Omega drivers for well over a year now and have NEVER had a problem with them. Current Omega ATI drivers now are based on the official Cat 4.4 drivers.

With the Omega Drivers it either they greatly improve your system or they do nothing. I used to use em but I didn't notice a difference in my benchmarks. Then all the talk erupted about those drivers frying monitors and cards..who knows.

Furious,

Make sure you are in FULL VIS mode by hitting SHIFT-F1 and see it that solves the horizon problem.  I have seen jagged horizons before when using SHORT VIS (SHIFT-F3) while trying to improve frame rate in previous versions.

Then you have nothing to lose.

I used to use em but I didn't notice a difference in my benchmarks.

How long ago was that ? ... My benchmarking shows a significant boost.

Then all the talk erupted about those drivers frying monitors and cards..who knows.

Like I said, I have been using these drivers for over a year now and have enjoyed every release.

i also get a small amount of the horizon bug.

I wish ah2 horizon didnt move when your view moves. its like there is a cloud of fog right where you look and towards the edges of your voew the fog moves further back.

i always liked how ah1 didn have this disgusting deimmersive effect the way flight simulator did.

i hate it because you cant suspend your disbelief that the fog is a far distance away when the fog moves its distance from you as you change views.

i like ah1 fixed fog much better since it didnt move when you change views or pan around.

...a couple more issues.

This terrain ripping raced along side me.

190d9 oddities and terrain tearing.  The wings clip inside cockpit, as does the air intake.  Fuel tank selection does not fit in space alotted.

May not matter, but bombs seem to have their own light source.

Camo

4.5 Cats are out and this should interest you.

A performance decrease is no longer noticed when setting the game option to Perfect in the game IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles.
