Does anyone make a good Joystick anymore?

Might as well call this stick a weeble because all you'll do with it is wobble.

I like the MS Precision Pro. Its cheap with the rebate you can get it for around $20. I have Simped Vario Pedals that block out the Twist stick on mine. $180 for the pedals from Germany. I like em and they are both Digital so no Pots or resistors to get dirty or have to clean. The MS works off of light and the pedals work off of magnets. Nothing to break The only thing thats gone wrong with my MS is the hat switch on one was bad. Spent $20 to get another one with rebate Later Torque-a-Mada

Well I've posted about this before, many may rememeber.

I had (note: HAD) an MS Sidewinder Precision Pro stick.   When I first got it I thought it was great, soooo much better than my previous 2 button stick.  Then the problems started.  Damn thing kept recalibrating itself mid-flight.  Tried everything to cure it, nothing had any effect.


And now.......


I GOT A NEW STICK FOR XMAS!!!!

MS Sidewinder Precision Pro II.

It's got 1 button less than the PP1 and a redesigned upper stick.  All I can say is "COR! 'KIN 'ELLFIRE".   I thought the original PP was a decent stick, boy was I wrong.  Compared to the PP2 the entire feel of the PP1 is crap.  

Everything feels smoother.....my gunnery % has gone up, my ACMs feel more natural, everything just feels nicer.

And best of all the PP2 hasnt thrown a single wobbler on me, yet.


Note:  Almost every single disco I ever had was me rebooting in disgust when that damn PP1 recalibrated itself.  You just see how many discoes show up on my score now.......

Unless somethings changed recently, the SIMPED-vario set doesn't support USB, or PDPI yet. That leaves me out. I'm not sticking to the old plugs anymore. I like them though. Nice wide stance.

Another MS stick? I don't know. Somehow, I'd break it.

 Mitsu turned me onto the FF pro back in beta. I've never had a problem. I had went through 3 Pre pro,s in 6 months.

 If your handy with tools you can tighten it up around the center (to much slop). I don't think the dam thing will ever ware out.

 BTW after being used for awile, the twisty part will pay off when u hook back up to your porn pipe.

Swoop, actually, I have the Precision Pro 1...It's much better. The button layout is the better and the feel of the joystick is better. Oh and if you wanted to know, all they did was put the power transformer inside the stick, reduce the size so it takes up less real-estate, and reshaped it. There's no difference in the actual hardware. Thats M$ for ya.

I bought a Logitech Wingman Digital 3D and it is far better than my old sidewinder pro, it was cheap, has a good ergo feel and doesent spike, plus if the spring feels to weak you can pop it open and put a spacer on it to make it as tight as you want.

Voss, incorrect.

Simped supports PDPI, you have to buy a seperate 'dohicky' to plug in between the Simpeds and the PDPI, I have it and it worked fine until my Simpeds broke (resistor came off of PC board internally, they still work as analog pedals however, and Dieter Hoffman has instructed me how to fix them or send them to him for repair). Simpeds will also work stand alone if you buy this other 'dohicky' to plug into the joystick connector of the Simpeds called "Virtual Stick". I simulates a joystick plugged into it for calibration purposes. I have both and have used both. If the Simpeds had the Toe Brake upgrade I've seen talked about I'd be using them instead of the USB Pro Pedals. Also as long as you are using a game that supports multiple controllers the Simpeds will work with USB just fine using the Virtual Stick plug-in, or by simply plugging in an old joystick to them for calibration purposes and only using the axis' you need to.

I have a Logictech Wingman Force USB or Gameport compatiable stick (I use USB) the most recent drivers make it compatible with game port rudders (I have Thrustmaster Elite Rudders.)

Its a bit of a pricey setup, but I have no complaints about my logitech stick.

You dont need a "dohickey" for operating the Simpeds alone..all you need is the R_only or Rudder_only driver from www.stickworks.com.

You can also get an adapter (dohickey) for the various M$ sticks.

I'm currently using the Saitek X36 USB combo with the Simpeds and it's about as good as it gets  .
Springs are not as soft as CH, but they wont break your arms like the F-22 and you pay about $90-100 for a stick/throttle combo.

saw a x36 usb on saitek sight refurbished for 39 bucks !!!

have been using it for over a year now not one problem have had numerous ms sticks , they are crap pure crap i sell them for a liveing they all come back if they are used much.save the time and get the saitec then buy what ever 200 stick you want for braggin rights

I have got this Christmas a Logitec Force Feedback Wingman Strike Force 3D USB to replace my old CH 16 Combat Stick.

And the Wingman sucks!!!.
I can't flight smooth and aiming is a nightmare, if pluged to ac the springs are to tight if un-pluged is loooose like the dick of a death and the planes departs at any move.
I have tuned all, the springs, the AH sets, all.
Good to play Soldier of Fortune or things like that. Terrible for flying.
I'll  be back to my venerable CH.

I use a Saitek X36 USB, its renewed my faith in Saitek as a serious stick manufacturer. The programming interface is better than anything Thrustmaster or CH have ever come up with, including the Fox Two program.

I've used TM stuff for 4 years and CH for another 3 and owned a FCS,PFCS,WCSII,F16FLCS and TQS in the TM range and a CH Force FX and Pro Throttle all conencted through TM rudder pedals and I have to say that the Saitek just plain beats the CH setup hands down and the Saitek X36 easily matches the programmability and construction of my old F16 FLCS/TQS setup.

I bought my Saitek X36 as a stop gap USB solution until Thrustmaster release their HOTAS 2000 setup but since getting the Saitek stick I'll not be in such a rush to go out and buy the HOTAS 2000.

The hand operated rudder rocker on the throttle does take getting used to but you can get drivers that allow you to use analogue pedals with the X36 USB and games see the whole setup as one joystick.
