CH FighterStick, and put "O" rings inside to give more resistance on the throw.

I love my CH gear. Love it.
You can order it from the ch website.

Another thing, The M$ Sidewinder PP Forcefeedback stick has a setting where you can change how tight the "springs" are (it's really just a little motor). It helps a lot with my flying so that when I play different games I can adjust how smoothly the joystick moves.

That being the case, perhaps they're worth another look. I loved the ease of programming, and the style was excellent. The first one I bought, though, broke within the first month. I wrote them, told them I had identified the errant part and did not wish to waste postage on returning it. They sent me the new part at no cost, which is the way CH used to do it. But, then I broke the joystick and on occasion the keyboard would stop working.

If all of that has been fixed, and the stick will last, I'll buy one. I always thought they had the best approach.

I run with a (cough, cough) Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro. As much as I hate Microsoft, this stick is a good one. I think I have only calibrated it the day I installed it and never again since. It's always been rock steady and the digital inputs are great. No springs since it is a force feedback stick and the amount of force is controllable in the stick setup. I just has a good feel to it and the heavy base keeps it solid on my desk when flying.

It does have a bit of a deadband issue right at the center but once you get used to it, it's a piece of cake. And on FF-enabled sims it's a blast.

I have a MS Sidewinder 3D Pro which works very well and has held up to considerable use over several years.  I never get spikes and rarely have to recalibrate.

However, I hate the twisty stick so I must use the MS in analog mode so I can add CH Pedals.  That means I lose the 8 way hat (drops to 4 way) and the extra 4 buttons.  So my sub-question is: are there USB versions of pedals out there that would work with the MS Sidewinder 3D Pro?  (Yes I know about those German ones mentioned in this thread, but $180 for pedals is a tad much for me.)

I have tuned all, the springs, the AH sets, all.
Good to play Soldier of Fortune or things like that. Terrible for flying.
I'll  be back to my venerable CH.

Edan, I had the same problem at first.  I solved it by turning the sensitivity to minimum with the Logitech wingman software. Much better now.

But I also like the feel of my old CH better.  I'm still waiting for the spare parts to arrive...

I used to buy a joystick a month until I bought a full CH setup, 3 years later it has outlived 5 different systems. You get what you pay for with CH.

I really miss my old F-22 and TQS setup.  Hard to find a decent stick with 2 hats anymore... much less 3.

I had to go with a Microsoft Sidewinder 3d Pro when I went to NT 4.0 back in 96.  At the time, it was the only way you could get full throttle and rudder support under NT due to an error in the generic analog joystick driver.  MS has since fixed the driver though (I think tech support was amazed I blew a $90 service call to take a bad joystick driver issue all the way to top level engineering... it got results though ).

When I got a new computer with win98 installed, I could not use the gameport joystick with it.  Win98 simply would not recognize it.  I purchased a Logitech Wingman 3d Pro.  This is perhaps the ugliest stick I've ever bought.. but I liked the button setup up top... made for decent trim options.  It only lasted 3 months before spiking started.

I then bought a Microsoft Precision Pro joystick with USB support.  Its a decent stick with two extra buttons on the top of the stick (relocated from side as on MS SW 3d pro).  It works great on my Win98 machine.  Unfortunately, it won't work with AH on my Win2k machine due to a bug in AH that won't recognize a USB js in Win2k.  Simple solution.. Sidewinder 3d Pro on Win2k box... Precesion Pro USB on Win98 box.

I haven't owned any CH products since I've always been too much of a TM fan (they were a local company after all), so I can't really comment on their stuff.  But I can say the MS products are a good generic catch all.  I really wish Guillemont still made the F22 and TQS

I wish TM still made the simple PFCS stick that had real springs in it so that I had to velcro it down to the desk.   I broke hats on it every couple months, I broke a couple of sticks right in half (plastic crapola) and now the pots are wore out on every one of em but if they still sold em I would still be paying $100 every couple of months or so for a new one.

The Ch stick I have now is hopeless.... I am either red out or black out or using up E to the tune of the stall horn.... Even two fingered is way too much strength for this effeminate job.  Is it set up that way for small children?   By opening up the wussy thing I don't see where there is any room on the spring posts to add "O rings"  looks to me like they painted themselves into a corner design wise on the spring part.  And what's with no button that will change stick sets on the stick while in a view???
