74 is a great weapon, but has problems with heat issues and accuracy, I own a 74 and a M4 carbine, both have their pluses, if I was crawling and wallowing in mud and had to survive off captured ammo, ak in a heart beat, other wise, it is the M4 all the way.

I read that in the beginning one of the reasons for AK usage was that tank crews were ordered to do patrols by foot. Well normally tank crews have only 2xm16 in tank and pistols. They couldn't be given any extra m16 cause there weren't enough of 'em so they preferred AK over pistol

Then they figured that AK is really handy when it comes fighting in dirty conditions. It is REALLY easy weapon to clean (believe me... i have removed all removable parts and put them together behind my back laying on ground and it only tooks less than a  minute with a little practise).

Ohh, and the most common weapon being picked up over there is the AK-74 NOT the 47.

I would also figure that the majority of the AK's being used over there are of the 7.62 variety, not the 5.45.

Plenty left over, more ammo than you can use, etc, etc, etc, althought what do I know, I aint there.

I own a 47... fantastic combat rifle.  If you want to shoot apples at 300 yards, better to have an A2, but the Kalashnikov fires time and again.

Whatever a soldier does, he needs to sight in a weapon not normally his, whether it be from a friendly or enemy source.
Not going to do the soldier much good if he's going to keep missing what he's aiming at because his weapon wasn't zeroed in.

AK103 ... rather nice looking gun I'd say.

The russians have a ton of weapons that are being made that are without a doubt very nice.  Don't forget the 105  The AN-94 I believe is the one that replaced the 74, she's a beaut as well.

Yes but you got to love the ability to get off 2 rounds without feeling any recoil.  And from what I have read it is more accurate then the M-16 A2.  It is a far better gun then the 74 but to all dismay is not on the export market.  YOu can buy barrels and all accesories to make your 74 into a 100 series and they are relatively cheap too.  She's a beaut
