Some fun times
« on: December 31, 2000, 05:38:00 AM »
Was remembering some fun I had back in November with 1.04 near an enemy field. I'm trying to warn guys where the nme fighters are but the radio didn't pop open. I lost all my drunks from the M3 I had, but there was another guy with another M3 about 100 yards behind me. He said "Delta, you drop drunks?". My reply was "Neg, don't think so. why?". Then I checked the text buffer and didn't see my warning. I had used the letter B several times, so all my drunks were gone. Had to tell the guy "Capture is yours, no drunks left. I'll cover u".

We rolled onto the field, I stopped on the runway while he ran over to the maproom. I was shooting up a 205 trying to up with my single .50 cal. Got that kill, but the guy re-upped in a B-26. I unloaded on him, with my partner in crime blasting away at a P-51 that was behind me on the runway. Next thing I knew the ack opened up with a horrendous wall of fire. Looked up in the chat bar and what did I see? "Field xx has been captured by the Knights"

YEEEEEEEEEHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another time we were trying to hit A20 in the SFTERR map. I had M3 duty again, and had parked just on the East-side of the field. StSanta was inbound with a heavy 190 and 30mm for the VH. A few friendly fighters were around, but not many. After St blasted the VH he hollered at me "Get going! VH ded!". I floored it and drove straight for the map room. What I didn't know was there was an M16 hiding behind an Ostwind on the backside of the Bomber hangar.

He opened fire on someone, who yelled at me to stop. Another guy flew overhead in a B-17 and got the two remaining acks. He also called out the position of the Ostwind-M16 combo. I was still hauling balls, only 2 minutes out, when Rip crossed the hill on the flip-side of A20 in a Panzer. He got both of them, then said "Need goon A20 NOW!". By that time I was parked in front of the map room dumping drunks. St repeated the call just before I said "Gotcha covered boys, we OWN 20".

Then "Field 20 has been captured by the Knights" rolled past the chat bar. Damn that kicked ass; I watched every friendly over that field come in and land right in front of my map room.

Now those were fun times! Got any you wanna share?

hmmm my best time in AH was when I had finally gotten a mission together with a lot of people joined, and as we were about to attack targert, the host disconnected. Or maybe the time when me and 2 of my squaddies were in route on a long range bobming mission, when the host disconnected. I haven't had too many fun times that i remember, but I am sure i have had them!!

I can recall two sorties that I had more fun than usual. One was when we were capturing a field, our goon was on the way from the south, when two Flakpanzers drove out of the suddenly reappeared VH to the north. Someone bombed the VH, but the goon didn't seem to hear our warnings. I performed an impromptu airshow in front of the Flakpanzers, away from the goon, doing loops, hammerheads, tailslides, whatever I could think of to get their attention, and it worked. They kept firing at me and missing for a few minutes, until the goon got the drunks in safely and the ack obliterated the FP's. I had to ditch since I was totally out of fuel, but I didn't mind  .

The other one was with StSanta, who was low over a Rook field (we were both Knights). After killing god knows how many of them, he was dragging 4 or 5 Rooks north, away from friendly help, and I dove in alone to clear his tail. On my first pass I smoked 2 of the enemies and winged another, enough to make the remaining ones break off. StSanta came back, killed off the last enemies, and we then found ourselves low and slow, right next to an enemy base, and with 4 or so cons descending on us like the wrath of god. We turned tail and ran down a shallow valley, and when we had enough turning room we reversed and instantly smoked an enemy each. We then proceeded to turn with the remaining two, but somehow they both ended up on StSantas tail with me giving chase. I killed one and the other one augered when I pinged him, and only seconds later a Yak I hadn't seen on the deck zoomed up and shot my tail off. I bailed and lived, but boy was I sweating. One of the most intense fights I've had in 7 years of AH, WB or AW.

I guess this attack was one I'll remember long.
We were holding only few fields in one of old maps where A1 and A2 were in lower right corner. Enemy did take A2 from us and that really was a pain in the ***.
Zigrat made a mission with heavy C-hogs and about 10-12 player joined in. The battle lasted only about one or two minute but it felt like it was only 10secs
That mission really showed what a good teamplay can do

Staga, I believe that mission was right before the massive Niki swarm Zigrat planned on the next base. We must have had 30-35 Nikis in formation swarming that airfield. 30 seconds out, 35 "Banzai!!"s rolled through the buffer. Those were great mission

Most fun I think I've had in AH was way back in beta.

Phoenix Squadron decided to recreate Operation Bolo, from the Vietnam war.  We launched from a rear field in P51's laden with drop tanks, and used a radio channel which we knew our opponents could monitor.

All 8 of us were giving false alt calls, and variously describing our loadouts as either anti-ack or Hanger destroyers.

One of our opponents even went on common channel to say, "I know what your target is Jekyll, and you're not gonna make it".

We arrived over the target field at 30k, after announcing we had just reached 20k.  Sure enough, below us at about 25000feet were 10 or so enemy fighters, waiting for the 'easy pickings' buffs they were expecting.

Result?  10 kills, 1 loss to our side

Organised missions really are much more fun!

Ricken, I remember that fight. Utterly satisfying even though we ended up dead in the end  .
