AHII Mandatory Release and Terrain Editor
« on: May 14, 2004, 11:13:37 PM »
Hello HTC,

As I understand from your last announcments AHII will be mandatory version very soon...........

Couple of questions
[list=1]
  • When AH2 will be mandatory what will heppen to SEA/CT? There are lots of events planned but there are no proper terrains. How will they continue to work.
  • Will there be a period from AHI to AHII when both will be avialable? Even short - not to stop planned events?
  • When the TE will be released? There need some time to build relevant terrains for SEA/CT...... If AHII will be released as mandatory without TE this will destroy CT and SEA.
  • Can we get converter from old terrains to new?

Thanks,

I'm sure i heard hitech say that the new terrain editor will be able to convert old AH1 terrains to the new format.

I'm not sure it is really possible.

The shapes of new fields are different. Most of SEA/CT maps use their own field layouts. After conversion they will not work.

Skins - the current terrains has 256x256 skins/textures. How will it work with AH2????

What HTC said that as I remember that only ground cover and elevation will be used for new terrains.......

IMO AHI should remain up to full release of TE and after some new maps will be build for SEA/CT. Otherwise I'm not sure lots of old players gonna fly AHII.

We've all been chomping at the bit for the terrain editor. Even some tidbit of information so tiles can be made in advance. But for some reason no information has been supplied.

We're all certain the terrain editor exists in some form since we have terrains in the Beta version. The only thing I can think of is that what we've seen isn't anywhere near the final version for terrains and they are holding that for when AH2 becomes a standard release. Sort of the icing on the cake to the beta test rounds.

I would hope this is the case, since the current terrain in AH2 is still showing the 1 mile repetition we see in AH1...

Most of the people you meet in life are like slinkies. Pretty much useless, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

The reason I worry about is following:
1. There are lots of players that do not fly at MA but CT, SEA only - when AH@ will be released need some terrains to them. Just what I see is that when AH2 will be released SEA and CT will be dead for some maybe quite long time
2. There need time to build new good terrains - and most of people do not have much time to work on them

I think this issue worst some reaction from HTC

You are under a few false assumptions.

First the New TE editor in it's first rendition will not alow you to do custum field layouts.

2nd editing tiles might not be as you expect. We now have full 3d objects that match the textures.
