Sad to say I can't stand this flight model.
« on: October 05, 2000, 08:59:00 PM »
Well I give up, I really can't stand flying the planes anymore.  The "G-force effect" on the pilot is just too much.  I wonder who initially tested this wondered to theirselves if this would really fly.  The result for me anyway is one of the most choppy flight sims I've ever flown.  Yes I have my joystick scaling set properly, yes my joystick is fine, and yes everything is smooth in Warbirds, so I know it's not the joystick.

This is not meant to be a flame just want the staff to know that the pilot head movement effects are uncalled for.  They tried it in Fighter Squadron and that was just as bad. I have a 933mhz Pentium III with the Geforce 2 card and I get 50-90fps so that's not it either. In fact, the problem is the pilot head movement effcts. If there was a way to turn those off I would back. Otherwise I'll see you when they do away with it. If not, oh well.

Pilot head movement?  Are you referring to Snap view?  Otherwise I'm not sure what ur describing.  You can choose instant view (believe F8).

f9 = instant view change
f8 = pan
f7 = snap (default, and makes me nauseous)

Would be nice if player could select default view mode

err tho i think Tex is referring to the way the pilots head actually moves during maneuvers (i think...)
I run AH on a much slower system than yourself Tex, cel 266(non cache) @448mhz, 128mb ram v3 3000 not clokt, and get from 30-50 frames with no probs except when close to a very smokey field.
Do you run ZoneAlarm Tex?  I experienced frame stuttering with ZA running, completely gone without ZA running though.
I've no experience with WB's to talk of, but I find the onset of blackout much more gentle and easier to predict than in Aw3 FR...

Man, I think the pilot head movement when pulling Gs is super cool.  Especially in negative Gs.  I think it adds very much to the realism and at least hints at the strain a pilot goes through.  I wish there were more serious effects when entering blackout repeatedly.

Tex..

No one ever claimed that this was Warbirds.

And the few hundred other guys flying here have never had this complait about head movement. I like it myself.

And i fly both sims, WBs since beta 94/95 and i still fly there, as i fly both and enjoy what both have to offerm i prefer to get used to things instead of quiting..

Dog out........

 What Wardog said.  Kind of sad (read: pathetic) that your one post here is to say bye bye.

Tex, your puter is way overmodelled. You shoud get rid of it and buy a nice PII-450 with some 8Mb video card. That would stop all those crappy side effects.

A 14'' monitor will of course help.

Cheers,

Pepino

Tex, I can honestly say that if you give the game an honest chance and fly it for two weeks, you will not even NOTICE that the head movements even exists.

I had totally forgotten about that "Feature".

Fats, a few people have complained, then after they flew for a week or two, they never mentioned it again.

Wow, I'm not sure what *my* problem is.

I've been flying since the first few days of beta and I have no idea what Tex is talking about.

I must have gotten used to it; but I don't remember ever thinking about head movement even when in the first few days of flying.

Let's face it, AH is not everybody's piece of cake, some people will like it and some just won't like it.  Whatever.

I guess it's the same as spins/stalls - when people argue whether spin/stall recovery is modelled correctly I wonder how does one get into one of those things Head movements? Hmmm... My head is popping up and down depending on the G-load... WB does not have this modelled - so what? I stopped noticing it long time ago.

"I've been flying since the first few days of beta and I have no idea what Tex is talking about."

 I thought the same too Fury but didn't mention it so as not to sound clueless. I'm glad to see someone else cn't recall what the heck this pilot motion is that folks are yammering.I either don't get this, haven't seen it or it has such a negligible effect when it does occur that I have not noticed it.

I found it very noticable when I first switched from WB to AH.  Took a week or two to forget about it.

Tex from DOS AW?
