So let's fast forward to the transition date where we turn over control of the Iraqi government to the iraqi council. No way they willl be calling the shots with our army.

What does that mean for our troops? We just don't pack up and go home...? we do that and the whole country will explode in civil war. What's worse is all the terrorist there now that will be trying to seize control. How does the US army continue to fight insurgency under the new government?

I might be a little slow on this so can someone tell me how this is supposed to work?

He is already replaced, this possition of CP is shifting between leaders in Iraq.

Anyway much more interesting thing is fat, where it happen.

The sad part is the minority is causing all the problems. But it re-enforces my belief that you cannot give somebody (or country) freedom. They have to want it and FIGHT for it. If the majority simply stood up and said,

"we are not going to tolerate this behavior anymore"

But they don't. They seem content to bi*ch about the occupation force being there AND at the same time, bi*ch about the occupation force not providing enough security. Sorry, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Those Iraqi's that have signed up for the security forces, are going to have a heck of a job in front of them once the transfer of power is complete.

Hmmm....

So what do we do? Pull out of Iraq and position our forces into Kuwait and see what happens? As a stage of a complete pull out of the region? If the "fit hits the shan" we can wait for the cry for help than we can come back in as the cavalry and save the day?

Colin Powell was asked that question on Meet The Press. Powell's position is now that we have opened Pandora's Box we MUST stay there to support the new government or it will quickly fail and the region will destabilize into groups run by warlords. He termed it "The Mogadishu Lesson".

Well I guessing that after the turnover, the US military or NATO would still have forces in Iraq. I would guess for at least many more years with the ultimate goal of eventually having a much smaller foot print in Iraq. The achieveable goal not withstanding the terrorists and insurgents being a peacfull Iraq with a local or native democratic government. Their may still be resistance after June however so long as that resistance is futile and can be contained or eventualy nullified.

And as far as NATO and the UN is concerned. If they are going to stand by and allow the US to handle Iraq however it pleases, then what that does is set the stage and scenereo for future events and conflicts. At some point in time, they have to decide if they themselves will support a new Iraq.
