« on: May 20, 2004, 05:30:30 PM »
Just a few random thoughts while flying today:

[list=1]
  • Head "spinning" ala Exorcist[/b]:  I'd like to see some sort of limitation to the amount a pilot's head can rotate.  Limit the head to 180 degrees in one direction and 180 degrees in the other.  The free spinning 360 degree views is kinda weird.  I had several others agree online earlier.  (This would NOT be limiting the dead six view however)

  • Hit sprites and ground strikes:  Not sure if this is already planned for implementation already.  I'd like a variety of hit sprites other than the same 'white explosion' we've been used to since the beginning.  Perhaps, if within reason, the particle system combined with some other tricks can be utilized for puffs of smoke when a cannon round impacts the ground/aircraft/object, and small pieces of metal/wood flaking and coming off with MG hits.  The same for ground strikes (only, small dirt for MGs and the proper effect for cannon round types... HE = small impact + explosion etc).  The amount of particles can be scalable similar to what we have now with view dist, object detail, etc...

  • A smallish FAQ or something with planned graphical features.:  I guess I, like many others, just want a small tidbit as to what is planned graphically.  What, if any, sort of pixel shaders will be used?  I just spoiled myself with a huge CPU/mobo upgrade so my comp is up to the challenge.  That probably isnt the case for the majority of the AH community ;)

I agre with all your point, even this one, however, unless HTC changes the view system, you can forget about this one happening. Remember, people can set views it pan, snap or instant, so forcing the head to rotate back around to look on the other side of the A/C is negatated by anyone using instant view mode.

I prefer snap view myself, because it lets you see things you might not have seen while your view is changing.

I do believe that is going to be a part of TOD, not the initial release.
Most of the people you meet in life are like slinkies. Pretty much useless, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
