F6F template
« on: May 21, 2004, 05:03:02 PM »
Mathman asked me to do a template of my F6F skin. I've managed to shrink it to a 5mb zipped package, but this is still goes over AH Skins' size limit for templates. So I've created a temporary web page it can be downloaded from here.

I saved the files in Photoshop psd format as requested, but as I use Paint Shop Pro I've not been able to test whether they do actually work in Photoshop.

Greebo, that is an excellent template, thanks for sharing!  I wish the opposite side and bottom tailplane weren't shared, I really like the tricolor schemes.  I went ahead and did a quick version of Lt. Bruce William's "White 25" from VF-19.  Top pick is from Osprey's Hellcat Aces of WW2 Book.  Bottom pick is that skin wrapped around your template ;).  Too bad the other side reads "White 52" ;).

Cya Up!

I swear that link wasn't there earlier lol.

WTG Greebo, that's a great templat, and is sending me back to the drawing board... again.

I might have to just leave this to the talented lol.

Glad to help guys.

That tailplane thing is such a pain. HTC seem to have some sort of texture rationing going on, there is an unused blank panel on the skin for the other fuselage side, for example. Hopefully we'll get an updated F6F5 or even an F6F3 one day and be able to do some earlier schemes. I'd guess its pretty low on their priorities right now though.

Please note that HTC seem happy to accept number substitutions on F6F skins. My FAA Hellcat was based on an aircraft with the number "145" which i changed to "101". So long as it doesn't look out of place.

The limit on ah-skins.com is just for the uploading with the upload script. I can of course put it on the page and link it. I will di that later. :)

You can find it on http://www.ah-skins.com now too.

If someone has something bigger than 2MB to upload, just tell me and we manage it. :)

Greebo,

You're probably getting tons of requests for skins from people on the boards, and I realize your time is limited.  I would like to be able to create some skins of my own, but I do not have the knowledge or programs to do these on my own.

Ahem...well...I would like to suggest a few skins for the Hellcat.  That is...IF you have the time and are so inclined.  If you have neither the time nor the inclination I understand totally.

1.  VF-29, USS Cabot (CVL-28) March 1945

2.  VF-94, USS Lexington (CV-16) July 1945

3.  VF-12, USS Randolph (CV-15) May-July 1945

If you feel like doing ONE of these, I personally prefer the one from VF-29...but I like them all...do which ever one suits YOUR fancy.

Again, if you don't have the time or motivation that is OK!

Regards, Shuckins/Leggern

Thanks Lucull, I didn't want to be a bandwidth hog and couldn't get it any smaller.

Shuckins, the scheme in the template is from the Randolph's VBF-12 which as far as I can tell is indistinguishable from VF-12.

If I was going to do another Hellcat on the current art it'd probably be VF-27, love that snarling mouth noseart. :)

Changing squadron markings on the F6F is pretty easy and I'm sure there are lots of people in here who would be happy to do it for you. I need a bit more of a challenge. Right now I'm finishing off my last F4U then I'm moving on to my next project, probably the F4F.

Greebo, this the one you talking about ...

That is Lt Cdr Fred A Bardshar's "White 1", CO of VF-27, USS Princeton,
24 October, 1944.  If you want the paint job to lay over your template and submit,
drop me a note and I'll e-mail it to ya :).

Nice job Dawguss, blimey you work fast! :)

There is a panel on the just to the right of the lowered landing gear door and below the engine which controls the colour of the cowling splitters. Check out the default art file to see where it is exactly. You might want to turn this panel red as well as extending the red down to the bottom of the extreme front of the nose on the fuselage panel.

By all means submit skins made on this template yourselves. I don't want to hog all the F6F skins, just mention you used my template.

BTW perhaps anyone else using the template can post which aircraft they are recreating, to avoid duplication.
