It does not matter who started it. It matters who is president while the war is going on, and who is responsible for allowing the draft. Sure the draft popped its ugly head back up for vietnam, but as you should know americans tend to have a short memory span.

I don’t know Sandman, the draft ran from 1948 to 1973 and we still seemed to get involved in a whole bunch of wars. Sounds like a feel good measure to me. Beside it’s political suicide

What I mean is that the Dems have already pushed this idea before. Rangels position was that the all-volunteer force was unfair and that political leaders would think twice about the next third-world skirmish if more of the "privileged" were at risk.

If and when we are ever really attacked on our own soil again you will see the recruiting offices filled with fine young men .
so I dont see the need for the draft as of yet.

heheheheh Well, then I can't explain why we ended up in wars with a draft, if the logic of his position is sound. Soneone from the privileged class must have been drafted durning that time period and yet, we still fought.

I do not think you do. You asked why would it be political suicide for whoever enacted a draft, and I gave you an answer. It killed Truman and it killed LBJ, and this war has even less support then either korea or vietnam(before the draft).

I was around during Veit nam and almost had to regester for the draft did you?

Trust me the country backs this war way more than they did Veit nam.

At the start of the vietnam war? I am not talking about after they started drafting guys and it was on TV everyday.

The war in South east asia never went over real big with the American public.

I know I was a teenager back then I remember all the protesting it was very ugly time in America.

Also ya gotta think maybe that the reason we dont see all that much coverage from Iraq like we did from Veit Nam.

Dont want the folks at home to see how trully nasty war really is.
