mechanic... you are young and in good shape and I think it taints your reasoning..

You say a "man" shouldn't have a gun for protection.   Well... there are many uses for guns but protection is important.

How do you feel about women having guns for protection?  or should they just submit and hope they live?  How bout old or infirm people?  do they need proitection or should they simply call the police?   How bout a young guy like yourself?  would you need protection from say 4 gang members trying to jack your car and you in a parking lot or would you just beat the crap out of em?

I am looking at a gun safe with maybe a dozen or so very interesting guns in it.   I have thousands of rounds of factory and personal reloads for all of em.. It is sometimes hard to pick a gun for plinking... plinking sesions are enjoyed by everyone (including beetle) who I have ever taken out.

Other than that I don't have much to add to the gap thing except that I really like my Kimber and would get a compact if I wanted a 45 to carry.  7-9 rounds is plenty.   My newest gun of choice for social interaction is a 12 oz. Smith 340pd in .357 magnum loaded with federal 125 hollowpoints.

well presented. and good points

i admit my view may be ignorant, but like samuri, i think we should have more honour in our confrontations.
i realise this is impossible in most societies cos someone whill always have a gun.

saying this i would love having a gun to target practie with and i dont see guns as a bad thing, just relying on them foir your safety seems sad.

although i am not in the right country to make any judgment

mechanic... I agree with you that needing guns for protection is sad.  It is sad that there are bad people and bad governments in the world but... fact of life.

you are wrong about the samorui thing tho.. again.. it is your youth and strength that taints your judgement.. I am in pretty good shape and I am a veteran of too many social confrontations... I am also ruthless and violent when confronted but... I ain't getting any younger and I have allways looked for every advantage I could find.   I can still beat up any cripple or woman on the planet... unless they were armed.

Firearms protect the weak and moral against the strong and immoral.

just curious... I have been told on this BB that 99% of english people are quite happy with their gun laws...  Are you one of the one percent who isn't or would you say that others of your peers feel as you do?

seems odd that I have a couple of british guns in my safe that I can shoot anytime I want and you don't and can't.

I wont trade in my Sig P220 in 45 ACP or either of my 1911 types for one any time soon, if you can't find a 45 to fit you hand then get one.

I refuse to buy anymore mouths to feed (I reload for 14 diff. cal. weapons now) I need a better reason then "it's just the same as another in preformance".

I thought I would pick up a 1911 clone and was leaning heavily towards the Kimber just cuz I like 1911s and that was my sidearm when I did my military service.

Stop leaning and go buy one. Kimbers are frickn awsome. A buddy of mine has 3 of them and now Im sold. After vaction this year I finally going to get mine. Ive had to make myself stay away from the gun store so I wont bring one home.:D
