I still haven't bought the model 1911, was vacillating on which one to choose and now I see this offering from both Glock and Springfield Armory.

Several gun magazines I recently received have highly rated the .45 GAP. It's balistics are almost identical to the .45 ACP but the overall round length is shorter allowing for a higher capacity magazine.  'The Rifleman' magazine just reviewed the Springfield Armory XD and Glock models and gave them very favorable reviews.

I really like the look/design of the XD and was thinking about getting one. I may go with the .45 GAP model now.

Glock created the GAP .45 while attempting to design a .45 with the same dimensions as their 9mm Glock 17 didn't they? I like the size and feel of my Glock 21.

Yeah I thought the .45 GAP was all about grip size, since the glock .45s are to wide for many shooters(I can't stand them).

I would stick with the .45 ACP round, in a 1911 clone like the spingfield, or in a Sig.

The gap round is prolly going to be hard to find and more costly in the long run, and you may get unlucky and it could not become popular, and you are stuck with a gun you can get no ammo for.

the only down side to the GAP is ammo availability, 45 acp is everywhere, have yet to see 45 GAP anywhere.  If you reload than no prob, and you will save money in the long run with the GAP because I think it uses a smaller power charge.

I would wait.  It's all the rage now to sell shortened ammo.  Some have taken off, like Winchester's .300 WSM.  Some have not, such as Remingtons SAUM's.  In fact, Winchester is even selling Win Super Short Mags.

Wait and see if this thing is even around in three years before you buy it.  Unless you reload and buy lots of brass.

as an owner of a ruger P95, I have to say it was the best value in a gun I have purchased.

345$ for the 9mm.

shoots very nice, and never has any problems.

I have a S&W Model 4006 and an H&K USP both in .40
a S&W model 915 in 9mm, a Ruger Security Six in .357 and a Taurus model 85 in .38
The 4006 is my tote pistol and the .38 revolver is my wife's car.  She is a fine shot.
My brother bought a Sig P220 and we went to the local landfill to shoot rodents.  (It's fun with pistols, if you can hit them.)  I had forgotten how much fun the .45 was and his Sig is a great weapon.  I thought I would pick up a 1911 clone and was leaning heavily towards the Kimber just cuz I like 1911s and that was my sidearm when I did my military service.  This new GAP round has me curious.  It may go by the wayside, but I thought the same about the S&W .40 12 years ago and look at that round today.

I have a Ruger MK 77 in 30.06 which I like a lot and have harvested 17 deer with.  I never really looked closely at the Ruger pistols.  I'm sure they make a fine pistol.

I have a few other rifles and shotguns as well but the pistol I carry daily gets the most use.  The Idea of a 1911 in daily use is unappealing due to it's weight but I like the whack that only the .45 delivers up close.  If I did purchase a .45 GAP it would be my carry weapon.

But you guys may be correct in advising me to wait.  The ubiquetous .45 ACP will be around for another century no doubt, no telling what will happen with this new kid on the block.

1911 is the only way to go. Hands down the best pistol next to the Colt SAA. But I doubt we are all going to start carrying Single Actions around.

1911 is the only way to go.
1911 is the only way to go.
1911 is the only way to go.

Cheap. Ammo is everywhere you turn. Classic. Sexy. Accurate. Reliable. You get the point.

I've shot Glocks alot. We have several range guns that we rent. I wish I could say the amount of ammo that has been through them, but its just too much to tell. (20,000rnds maybe more) They still shoot and shoot well. But I can't bring myself to own a plastic gun. Sorry just can't do it.

1911 is the only way to go. :)

Storch,
Good point on the .40 smith and wesson, but thats one new round in how many years, I can think of some handgun rounds all mods on the .45 acp that have never gained popularity. Like the 45 super?(I think that was it, was about the same size but needed a stronger barrel.)

I do not think the market is going to see the need for another .45 handgun, the market is already filled with tons of 1911 clones, heck even fantastic gun makers like sig are coming out with 1911 clones.

I would be willing to bet right now that in a year or two no one will want anything to do with the 45 gap.

i only tried a hijacking once and that was by taking control of the school slush puppy machine and wheeling it round the corner where i drank to my hearts content and sold 1/2 price slushies to anyone stupid enough.

untill they found me and expelled me permanently from education in general.

still i have come a long way from there............

dont anger mechanic or one day you might regret it :p

(and btw: i am an extremely responsible person when i possesion of a fire arm. i scored 69/70 on the 200yrd range in my year of military service (service - lmfaorotf) i dont give you a bad name. i just think a man is only a man when he fights with what he was born with - physical strength and quick thinking)
