There's a reason why cars are packed with safety features.

People want them.

sandie... I got no problem with packing cars or trucks with saftey features..

I have a huge problem with big nanny telling me I can't ride in the bed of a pickup truck if I want to.

One point that wasn't brought out is that we had a lot more fun back then.   You would have been embarassed to pretend to be someones mom and tell them that you were voting for a law that would restrict their freedom for their own good.

We didn't sit in front of the internet or TV or nintendo all day and night.. we played semi dangerous stuff till it got dark or even latter... our first cars were lucky to have brakes.   300 hp cars with no brakes and no shocks taught you how to drive.

I can't believe anyone would defend the loss of freedoms that we are experiancing.

I tend to agree. I think it's silly that we have helmet laws in some states. I also think it's silly to have mandatory belt laws.

In like fashion, I don't like any of the so called consensual crime laws. Prostitution, drugs, gambling, ticket scalping, sodomy, you name it. I don't see the point of protecting people from themselves.

Guns... I agree that gun locks and safes and all the other safety features that are available are probably a good thing to have. Still, I'm not convinced that it's something that we need to legislate. On the other hand, if one of my children was in someone's house and good gun safety wasn't practiced with a result of injury or death to one of my children, I would definitely be in the mood for a lawsuit.

Back on the car thing...

The car manufactures are going to load vehicles with crumple zones, air bags, shoulder restraints and all sorts of additional safety features because (I believe) the majority of the consumers desire such things. At the same time, I don't agree with our legislators making such features mandatory.

If a parent is so foolish as to allow their children to move about freely in a motor vehicle, completely unrestrained, good on them. They're not making the gene pool any deeper anyway.

we agree on that but...

bet you can't figure out why it all went so bad?   overpopulation for one thing... a good plague or natural disaster on the allmost apocalyptic scale will turn things back but...

not just that..  the real reason is womens suffrage. and shallow gene pools... at first womens suffrage was not so bad (except for prohibition and a bunch of socialist laws) because a lot of em either din't vote or voted like they were told.   Now... they can elect a man like kerry or finestein.

shallow gene pools have created a paler version of men too... ones who feel weak and helpless and feel (much like women) that the government is their only salvation...

After watching the History Channel this weekend and the Modern Marvels show, I know who to blame.

PLUMBERS.

women have been able to vote for nearly 100 years...this "nannying" is a pretty recent thing.

mandatory saftey items in vehicles are there not to stop you from killing yourself but to stop you from killing other people...warning labels and such exist because there are all together to many frivolous lawsuits...they exist only to protect companies from that sort of crap. gunlock laws and such are there because stupid people who keep there gun in a unlocked drawer where kids can get them...and they save kids (who do stupid stuff) because law abiding citizens will do it and non law abiding citizens will have more charges thrown at them thus incresing there deserved jailtime.

and is blaming women for these things any more acceptable  than blaming oh lets say...gays?

well... gays tend to vote like women for the most part because they are mostly liberal so yes... they would have a part in it but... they are a small portion of the population so in no way as big a threat as women.

you should really get a grasp of the balance of freedom and security... my not using safety devices does not endanger you anymore than some peoples rock climbing or bugee jumping does.

in any case... it is too late for you probly.. you are thouroghly brainwashed.   or... are just very young and idealistic with no life experiance to speak of.
