Guys,

A friend of mine e-mailed this URL to me. It's about games for the disabled and such. Its a very interesting read I thought. Most of you know that I'm disabled and a vivid simmer/gamer. Although I'm not deaf or blind, I have some issues with companies that don't really make their games more accessable to the disabled ie full stick support in FPS' like Call of Duty and FarCry.

It seems to me that the game makers are scewing the pooch by NOT making the Games accessable to the disabled.

I mean they make up a large part of our society and I would think a HUGE part of computer gaming.

All games should be accessable to the disabled just my opinion.

I used to be heavily involved in adaptive devices for learning back in the 70's. There were some very cool people back then who were creating stuff that is just now becoming available. Like laser pointer keyboard controls and reading machines. We even had a Faring manufacturer (Vetter Farings) that was heavy into racing wheelchair design.

What are your disabilities?

Target,

I have Cerebral Palsy. Its like a short circut in my brain. I can't walk or talk. But I can hear normally. My left arm and hand are very uncontrolable ie spasmtic. I have a computer communication device to "talk" if I'm hanging out. Its about a size of todays laptops. Very good voice model compared to the ones in the late 70's and 80's. They sounded like robots in which it was kinda cool.

Last summer I met few of my comrades-in-arms of the CAF. I was their tour guide of the USAFM in Dayton. I live practically under the WPAFB flight paths. Hearing the C-5 coming in is a major rush:). I can hear OAG's 16's flying over too sometimes. Anyway, having that device helped me greatly. Me and my buds really had fun. If you really know me and/or I feel really comfortable around you, you can understand me somewhat verbally. Its like with Hans and Chewie in Star Wars

Remember the crapola about having Padlock in AH and how I plea to the players on why and stuff? Now you know:)

Very familiar with CP. I escorted a guy to the International Special Olymics who had CP. It was like we were the only 2 people there who knew he wasn't retarded. I was amazed at the number of times he got away with copping a feel ... you know... by accident.. on the women who inevitably came around to "help".

Heh ahh the advatages being disabled;). I used to "drop" my handerchief to sneak a peek sometimes

Yeah I always thought of being retarded by people too. Even the school officals of a "School for the Handicapped" thought I was mentally retarded as well

. But oh well that's life I guess.

I hope that HTC includes Padlock in AH2. It very turned into this feared advantage folks worried about, instead it was a very useful thing for people with disabilities. I know my buddy Falcon really appreciated it.

AH2 has the snap view padlock which I really don't like. I hope soon they enabled the panning one.

Yeah the article was very interesting. I'm gonna look up that ESP company to see if they need help on that tank sim.
