I was excited whe I first heard the trim controls were going to be true rotor control (IL2/FB style) instead of the banded work around.

After trying the new way, I have resorted back to the banded method for both aileron and rudder trim. This seems more precise a control than the pure rotor way, hard to center them up quickly.

I use the rotor method for elevator trim only but find I have to calibrate it when I calibrate the rest of the HOTAS (X45/CH Pro Peds) otherwise it is not centered. I find the elevators to work much better the new way while the other two trims work out better the old banded way.  just a fyi...

Yeah, I have an X45 too... figures that Saitek would announce the X56 right after I got it, too.

    I have my trim controls set on the index finger hat on the throttle stick. It works well. I maped it using bands. Now if I understand you correctly can this be set to a dial for the elevator trim. Does this give the trim a faster response? Im trying to get the elevator trim to respond quicker.

yes you can set trim to rotors in AH2

I have the throttle thumb rotor set as elevator trim in this fashion now. It works well this way for me. You set it up in the AH2 joystick setup by assigning that rotor "pitch trim"

the other trims I have left as banded as they function faster and more precise that way for me

I have

LH thumb wheel as elevator trim
LH index finger wheel as aileron trim

They seem to work well a setting on the rotary = a trim setting on the bar line.

Rudder rocker as rudder trim (only used when part of wing is missing)

I did move rpm to the mouse wheel but lost right click mouse functionality upon doing so. rpm now back on keypad +-

Well if your X-45 is anything like the three I had in 9 months, you'll be taking it back to the store soon.  Seems the main hat switches are extreamly weak.  Which was really a shame as I really liked the stick and throttle, and I miss all the buttons.

wow, I've never heard of this before. Perhaps you just have really strong thumbs?

Check the Saitek forums, a common problem with the X-45 it seems.

With the CT and FM's finished I find I no longer need an aileron trim.

I have now combined both aileron and rudder trim onto the old rudder rocker  so both move as I adjust the rocker..........


Pitch trim is still on the thumb potentiometer and rpm is on the index finger potentiometer.

When re calibrating you must always calibrate all the potentiometers.

yup... horrible build quality on the stick...

the throttle build is ok, the stick is horrible....doesnt center, hats are broken etc etc....

As with any mass produces product, the price -vs- quality formula is one of the key things a manufacturer must deal with.  In the case of the X45, I think they have done a great job.  Its not the best stick ever built...but its built pretty well.  Mine is 2-3 years old, and is just starting to wear out the main hat switch that I use CONSTANTLY (2-4 hours a day).....the hat still works, but I have to blow it out every few days (havnt tried tuner cleaner yet).

For $79 (less on sale) I cant complain....CH gear costs three times that, and isnt likely to last me three times as long.

I cant wait for the new Saitek stick....I could care less about the startrek look...it has some great additional featers planed....like the DUAL STAGE TRIGGER!

err 2-4 hours a day isnt constantly  more like 5-9 hours....like i do

Buy your sticks at CompUSA and pickup the two year warrenty for $15 US.  I'm on my 2nd stick and another new warrenty when the hat started to go after 14 months.  I had to wait without a stick for two days while they did the paperwork at the store but I have had the 2nd stick since March.

and the cost of shipping would be half the price of the stick........
