« on: May 25, 2004, 05:48:08 PM »
I'm working on a LA-7 skin and need some help on making a metal looking part like some use on the P-51 wings and fuselage.

Could you tell me how you make this metall looking effect please ?

Thanks

This has the heat shield incorrectly painted but it does show how rivetless the La7 cowling and exhaust cowl flap was.

Also the side panel whilst there is barely discernable..........

airmess, I feel your pain.

Having to depict 3D objects with 2D methods(as in the Lavochkin gunports, bumps, and exhaust/heatshield..) is pretty much a drag.

There's no real way to do it except literally "paint" the surface on as if you'd paint a picture.

Tilt .. thanks for the picture. It helps me a lot to understand the engine part.

And Kweassa thanks for you support. It's not as painfull as you think. The clue is to get a good view of the part you want to do. And there are not many good images of the LA-7 arround.

And by the end we're doing some "replicas" with our skins which never can be 1:1 how they where once.

When the LaLa "Tele Tabbie Plane" is finished (or it finishes me before) i'll post it.

More pictures..........

AS selector said this has been repainted incorrectly although I can assure you it has not had many coats of paint............

I have a feeling that the colour scheme you are trying to render is post may 45.....ie it never saw active service in this colour scheme.........

Airmess, if you have paintshop pro, there are several flood fills that replicate metal. If you don't, I could do it for ya if ya told me exactly what and where was needed.

Airmess...try this BMP see if it helps.

imo, Simpliest way to make them same looking as from p-51 is just cut part of bitmap from p51 and paste in to la7 skin. Then fit as you like by scale, rotation and twist-squiz

Come on people!  Nobody has mention the forward slats!!!!!!!

What is that about!

I thought those were only on 109s during the war.

What are you talking about? The LA5FN and the La7 had slats in RL and have them in AH2....

I am not denying the plane had slats, I just never noticed them in the game.  Are they functional in ah2?  The 109s kick out visibly.

Did fly during the GPW..........  it was active in the Baltic (presumably against JG54 etc) during early spring 45.

The colour is AMT-12 which was the standard darker  colour  applied at the facory on the two tone camo..........

The lighter colour of AMT - 11 was the more common (grey) to be applied as a single colour.
