Will WW2 be a popular subject in 50 years?
« on: May 25, 2004, 07:23:47 PM »
It is a popular subject now, lots of new books etc.

In 50 years will it be? In 50 years will things like AH still be around?

I still think it will, WW2 aircraft were fantastic machines, machines can not match now in pure workmanship.

I bet it will.  They're fantastic machines.  However, it may be more of an "old man" thing.  My grandfather was into civil war history, which I've always found boring on the battlefield level.

Maybe there's some kind of generation thing there.  As he was a "fan" of the war his grandparents told him about, I am a fan of the war my grandparents told me about.  50 years old seems to be a good time lapse - the recent memory of the screwups is gone, and the historians have done their work romanticizing it.

The Civil War seems to have kept people interested. Why not WW2?

Whether WWII will be popular in 50 years is a thing I've thought about alot. I think it still will be popular, but possibly other wars may kinda take its place  in being the most popular. (not saying theres gonna be WWIII or anything...)

talking about civil war has anyone played sid meiers gettysburg?  I've allways been a fan of his games CIV CIV3 ect....wanting to check out his pirates game as well.

On another note I think wars fade just as people do and if there's still a civilization in 50 years it might just eaqual a paragraph in a history book.  My dad is a big time civil war buff and I'm into it but not as much as he is....

Guns
That is what I was thinking cause I do not really like reading much about the civil war.

I think WW2 will be popular longer do to the sheer scope and the coolness factor of the weaponry.

I think thats why the civil war does nothing for me, it was still a primitive war, not tanks, no real MGs, no planes. The bad guys are still americans ETC..
