Kerry's VP nom....who's it gonna be?
« on: May 26, 2004, 11:21:30 AM »
Just a poll, who you think Kerry's Vp nomination is going to be.   I think its gonna be Edwards myself. but here's my opinions

If he picked Hillary I think it'd be a lanslide over bush

I think if he pick Mcain It would also be a landslide

If he picked YEEEEEEAARRRGGGHHH it would be a death rattle.

It doesn't really matter who Kerry chooses.  Voters routinely rank the choice of VP extremely low on the list of things that influence their vote.  Party affiliation and the state of the economy explain most of the variance in vote choice.

I can't think of a single example in the last century save one where the choice of VP swung the election.  Kennedy's choice of Lyndon Johnson made the difference in Texas in 1960, but not because Texans voted overwhelmingly for Kennedy because of Johnson.  Rather, Johnson controlled Texas politics and was able to work the Texas political machine to Kennedy's advantage.  Lots of dead folks voted for Kennedy in Texas in 1960.

Even Nixon said Kennedy stole it fair and square.  :)  It didn't seem to hurt Nixon's political career too much regardless.

yeager  you are overlooking the fact that yes she may be HATED by one side but on the other she is held up as a champion by people that are completly snowed.

As far as influencing an election I beleive ross perot MIGHT have had a better chance if his VP was a little stronger.

I've seen some strange things lately... $2 a gallon gas, beer for sale in Decatur, Texas...so McCain as VP would fit right in!
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

Kerry+McCain would be a pretty amazing combo, and would almost certainly win.  It probably ain't gonna happen, though.

McCain as VP would grab all the conservatives that feel uncomfortable with some of our president's policies, and Kerry has the automatic vote of the democrats.

They're all crazy, of course.  Libertarian in 04!

true, but none of those people would vote for Kerry anyway.

he'll pick Edwards.

I'd like to see Kacinich (sp?) get it.  the guy has some great ideas but he's too weird-looking and out of the mainstream to really have a chance at electing him.  even before the first primaries showed anyone with an edge over the rest  commercial tv regularly ignored him and rarely even listed him as one of the options.  he hasn't had any big-money supporters (something I see as a good thing, but doesn't help him get elected), and his done most of his campaigning on public-access tv.

I think that even if Kerry asked her, she would refuse.

If Bush wins again this year then it will be Hillary '08.

Bush's win against Gore in Florida and the loss of Kerry in '04 will galvanize the Dems and Hillary just might take the White House.

It will garner not only the Dem's vote (all together this time, no contenders ala Dean, Clark, Sharpston) but also possibly the Replican women.  By that time Bush will have had two terms and who will be the successor?  McCain?  No one that will carry it is my warrant.

For the lesser of two evils, I hope Kerry does win '04 so that Hillary will have to further her plans to have the White House.
