Saitek Cyborg Evo Profiles
« on: May 26, 2004, 02:42:05 PM »
I just switched from a Saitek X-45 over to the Saitek Cyborg Evo. Is there anybody out there with a profile for this stick that they would like to share?

I bought the evo a couple of days ago and have found it to be hyper sensitive on the cyborg profile.  I'm in the process of dialing the Evo in.... it's a bit of a chore.

Steve!  When you told me you had an EVO stick, I thought you were talking about some sort of adhesive! :lol

I went to http://www.amazon.co.uk and found they had EVO sticks on sale, and bought one immediately! I had been using a Cyborg 3D like yours. What I like about the EVO is that it has the stable base like the Logitech 3D but the programmability and quality of Saitek.  I haven't yet flown AH with it, but I can tell it's going to be great!

Wolf05 - first thing I did was to set up the profile for it. So you can copy down my profile, if you like. Put the .ZIP file in your c:\program files\saitek\software folder and unzip it to same. I take it you did install the profiler software? Just right click on the profiler icon in the sys tray, and select my profile file - evo2.dat

Beet1e's Saitek EVO stick profile

Mine is set up much like Steves. The big left and right thumb buttons adjust trim up and down, the middle thumb button toggles combat trim. The two top thumb buttons are for trim on speed and trim on angle. Left shift + left thumb button = flap down, left shift + right thumb button = flap up. There are a couple of other surprises for you there as well.

Steve - you might be able to use this yourself if you're struggling to create your own, although given that you're left handed you might want to reverse some left and right settings. (?)

Beet, I may have misunderstood what was intended by "profile".

I use basically the same setup I had on my Cyborg except I programmed buttons 5 and 6 for range and squad channel respectively.

My problem is that the stick is WAY to sensitive to inputs. While flying around, I have frantically worked on stick scaling in an effort to get it to be usable for me.  In the mean time, more than one person has happily taken advantage of my nearly helpless state.

The profile I'm talking about is the stick mapping etc. that you apply using Saitek's own software. I know that a lot of guys just use AH's own mapping, but with the profiler software you can program macros and advanced commands. (Saitek even records the interval between keystrokes, not that you'd need that for AH)

I don't think you should be using your old Cyborg .DAT profile. Indeed, I got an error message when I tried to open my Cyborg .DAT file in edit mode. Try installing the EVO one I've set up, and see if it helps your flying. If it does, you can easily convert some of the button programming for left handed use.

I'd have to agree with the importance of using the programming software to get the most out of this stick. I mapped my primary buttons the way I normally would, but then set up an Aces High Profile that allows me to use the shift buttons, etc. This way I get dual use of all my buttons, and my hat switch. My hat set-up gives me my normal 9 views (with default forward), F2 is my up view, using both together gives 45 degree up views. I can hit the up view button with my pinky, while using throttle, etc. Shift-Hat is my trim. Shift-forward hat is down, back is up, L/R is aileron, Back L/R is rudder. I love it this way, I can trim in a fight without looking away from moniter. I use F1 as damage, with Shift F1 and F2 as flaps up/down. Steve, did you ever get your hat switch to give you the views you were looking for? I had some problems figuring out how to get the EVO to work properly in joystick set-up at first, but eventually figured it out.

Yes, I finally did, thank you!  Had to work at in in setup but it works fine now.

Also my stick sensitivity problems are solved!  The drivers from the previous stick were playing hell w/ my Evo.  I though I was doomed in the game.  Got the problem fixed and rolled off 33 straight in my pony(to date).  What a relief!

Now that I've got the Evo working well I must say I'm very pleased with it with just one exception.   I find it to be very light as it sits on the desktop.  I'm going to consider how to weigh/anchor it down.   Ideas?

Glad to hear you worked it out. It's kinda funny, I broke my Cyborg 3d gold, went to by a FF stick, all they had was the EVO. Bought it as last choice because needed it to fly, now it's my favorite.
I've also notice it moves around too much on my desk. I've been considering using lead to weight it down, but haven't yet. At most hobby stores that carry RC plane supplies, you can find strips of lead with double sided tape on them, for use as ballast. The strips are approx. 1/4 x 1/2 x 6 inches. A few stuck to the bottom might work. You could cut them to size easily too. Next option would be to go to a sporting goods store that carries duck hunting supplies. Look for the lead bars/strips used to anchor decoys. 1/4 x 1/2 x 12 approx. Cut to size and use your own 2- sided tape to apply. Seems likely to work...
WTG on 33 kills! It takes smart flying, and discipline to do that! I'd like to be able to do half that...

great ideas on the weights.  There is that big empty "pocket" on the front of the stick.   My fantasy was to take a clay mold then have a weight poured for it.  I won't do that because I'm too lazy, lol.

I noticed you're in Wisconsin.  I'll be there in August....have a house on White Sand Lake in Lac du Flambeau.  You near there or down  by Milwaukee?

I live about mid-way between Steven's Point and Oshkosh, kind of out in the middle of nowhere.  The town I live in has a Post Office, General Store, 2 churches, and a Cafe. That's it! It's about 3-4 hours from Lac Du Flambeau. I did a 50+ mile canoe trip a few years ago, down the river, and ended up in Lake of the Torches. Really nice country up there.  I'm not familiar with White Sand Lake, though.

Actually, I'll look into that front pocket idea, too. I have a coal-forge, and use it to melt lead to pour musket, rifle, and cannon balls, among other projects. (OK, so I have a few odd hobbies...) I'm a Fur- Trade Reenactor, and it's easier to make my own stuff, then to try to find/buy it. If I get a chance to fire it up over the next few days, I'll see if I can figure something out. I'm thinking clay form , then using sand to make a mold, and pouring molten lead in. Might take a file to final-fit, no big deal...
